Grad 85 here, and at the time UAlberta had all incoming students write an essay early in the first term since students coming out of high school struggled so much. If you did not pass you had to take a remedial writing class. I think it's been an ongoing issue for some time.

My wife has an excellent vocabulary and plays Wordle every day. I think it's mostly luck because you can have several words that match the three letters you have, as an example; the luck is finding the correct one.
I played once and got it in three so I retired. I now boast to my wife that I'm 100% at three or fewer guesses.

I receive 50-60 emails per day; a lot of them from young(-ish) engineers, whose grammar is atrocious almost across the board. No spell checks, no punctuation, no formatting. In fact, as an observation, I find correspondence from non-native English speakers a lot better, grammatically. One guy got seriously insulted when I suggested that he needs to take a writing course. My argument: "Your correspondence could be viewed by others and it looks unprofessional". His argument: "it is clear what I meant, so who cares!". I remember one of our technical profs at the university deducting 1% for each grammatical error in submitted assignment papers... Maybe the world is changing and adapting to the prevalent and overwhelming illiteracy. What bothers me though is the active aggression towards literacy and proper use of written language - as in it is becoming uncool to write properly.

Two spaces between sentences? The horror!! Yes that is much worse than spelling and grammatical mistakes.
If we simply ignore all grammatical rules and punctuation, we solve the two spaces problem! Win-win!

This is getting into linguistic subtleties. There is nothing wrong about two spaces after a period. It is more of an evolved convention (arguably, invented for no good reason, mind you; but leave that) and it doesn't make you old if you use it; just a habit. Also, this is getting into what is acceptable in literary writing, where almost anything could be justified as writer's artistic freedom of expression. Conversely, technical writing and legal writing must be a lot more canonical and conservative to be universally acceptable, useful and understood.

lol I didn’t say it was worse! Just different and annoying, though I do see a lot more of it.
At the end of the day these are largely made up rules that change as time goes anyway.

I remember doing a technical writing course in University, though it may have been part of another course. It was very useful, and I wonder if maybe it should be mandatory for all degrees, if what you are saying is true.

Got my first bloody wordle wrong and I'm pissed, had the 2nd through 5th letter on the 4th try, which left 4 possible words left and I picked the wrong 2 out of the possible 4, feel cheated

Almost exactly the same for me... Except I had 2 chances left and only 3 possible words. They shouldn't call it "hard mode"... They should call it "masochist mode."

If you weren’t playing hard mode the correct strategy is to pick a word that will eliminate multiple options rather than try to guess the answer. So you needed a word with 3 of your 4 possible letters If you are playing hard mode these ones suck.

I dont have the game set in hard mode as I wasnt aware it had settings but I have always played it in 'hard mode' ie always used the letters that I know are in the answers as I find them, but you are right, should have used one of the lines to eliminate the consonants, I guess climb would have done it

I am in the same boat as you all. I have the final 4 letters with 3 more guesses, but there are 5 possible answers.
It's just a random guess at this point.
Which is pretty silly - they should avoid words like this where there are numerous rhyming answers. No skill involved with that.

After I started finding wordle less challenging I started doing quordle—a variant where you guess 4 words at once. I find it quite difficult, but maybe I don’t get the strategy quite yet.

Pick 4 words that use 20 unique letters then you have room for 1 miss
This trivializes the game. I prefer using two words covering 10 letters and then try to guess them but once you get 3-4 letters you need to be careful with just trying options and instead move on to a different word.
There is also an Octordle where the 20 letter strategy seems the only reliable way.

Thanks for this. Yeah, WORDLE is pretty straight-forward, so I gave this a try. Took a bit to figure out how it works, and it makes you work, but got it in 8 turns.
Definitely going to keep doing this
