Polenta! Not five minutes ago, I was in the kitchen making some, and I mentioned to my wife that it would be a good name for a dog. Especially one like a golden retriever. Right now the odds-on favorite for our own dog (hopefully we'll be getting one in the spring) is Ramikin.

i love it when dogs have regular human names.
I changed my dog's to Gerry when he was 10 years old. There were some confusing years for him.
A guy I used to work with had a dog named Dave.

If it's a boy: Mike F.

Alternatively, if you don't think the dog has the gravitas to live up to such an impressive name, and decide you want a cool sounding, exdotic type name, peruse through this list of Mesopotamian mytholoy. Lots of good stuff to choose from or to slightly modify.

A friend of mine has a dog named Marduk, which I always liked

Surprised to see this thread again. I got my puppy and I named him Aslan. Loved the Narnia series and I think it's a power name. It works well, I think.

Going back through the thread, I believe it was Tron who suggested that name so thanks to you, Tron!

I named my dog Maggie, but I call her Boof most often. It's the sound she makes now that she isn't allowed to bark in the house.

Care to share some puppy pics? Maybe we could even make a new thread for puppy/kitten pictures. I have some pretty neat pics of my mutt when she was really little.

We had a pet picture thread going a while ago.

(Just no point in making a new thread if one already exists.)

I always like messing with people, I'd probably call my dog Kitty. My sister is getting a weiner dog pretty soon. She's going to call it Moutarde (French for mustard).

The only problem with this name is that it sounds very similar to "No", which is a command you want your dog to be crystal clear about.

Not really. In italian, 'no' sounds the same as english. Leo has no problem distinguishing the two.
