That would be really smart on Seattle's part. Hakstol is still a puzzling choice to me.

9 Head coached in ten years has to be an NHL record. Time to raise another banner to the rafters in Rodgers.

Is it possible that Tippet quit? He sure looked like he was ready to say screw this crap last night.
Please please please let this be the case.

Love to know the dynamics that cause them to fire Playfair, but keep GG.
I feel like playfair probably told them the problems weren’t the head coach, and GG threw him under the bus and told Holland what he wanted to hear.

I'm sure Woodcroft is a good coach, but is a first time NHL coach going to have the stones to break the culture rift in Edmonton and actually get the two star players to play modern two way games?
The Edmonton inferiority complex that has every coach's hands tied for fear of pissing the two players off and said players wanting to leave sure seems real to me.

Playfair was brought in by Tippett so like Cloutier with Hartley they were tied at the hip. Gulutzan was brought in by Maclenan so he is on this third head coach in Edmonton since joining the staff in 2018

GG was probably late because he stopped to bring them coffee. Now he is just stuck in the coaching room.

The one thing Woodcroft has going for him is that he's coached these guys before, albeit as an assistant under McLellan.
There's almost zero doubt that whoever the new Oioers coach is, they have to come in with a Scotty Bowman-to-Steve Yzerman mindset of "You're not here to win art ross trophies, you're here to play within a structure and take shorter shifts, play the proverbial right way, etc"
Do I think Woodcroft can be that guy? I have no idea but it was evident Tippett was absolutely NOT that guy Despite his goaltending and specialteams (=Gulutzan+talent) driven record he was a downgrade on Hitchcock and McLellan.

Gulutzan is their PP coach, and I'm pretty sure they have had the #1 PP in the NHL since he came on.

I'm ecstatic that fans and media think the problems with that team are always coaching and goaltending.
Beautiful day.

Woodcroft coached with MacLellan in Edmonton already. He was in charge of their PP and the fans hated him them. But he has done wonders with Bakersfield so he is ready to lead Connor, lol

That's kind of the issue with that market isn't it? Remember when Darryl called out Gaudreau last season and reduced Tkachuk's ice time? Those moves clearly got the attention of those players and they are better for it this season. I don't think an Oilers head coach can pull that off with McDavid or Draisaitl without fear of mutiny or them deciding to pout and ask for a trade.
