No way San Jose trades him unless they aren’t close to a playoff spot by the trade deadline.. but Monahan + draft pick for a rental essentially? I’d do it.. we need to clear cap space next season anyway

Flames over achieved early in the year and now coming back down to earth. Markstrom wasn't going to get a shutout every game....now they need depth to step up.

Annoying and frustrating loss. Still, at least the team pushed pace. Always said I'm fine with losing as long as it's a good solid effort and entertaining. The game certainly was.
Mostly annoyed that the teams we're competing with for the division lead lose, and the Flames keep losing as well. Would be nice to put some separation between the Flames and Edmonton/Anaheim. Can almost guarantee as soon as the Flames turn things around, likely they will too.

Their success going forward hinges on the ability of Backlund/Coleman/Monahan/Dube/Mangiapane to create offense every other night if not more frequently.
Got by with the top line running the show early cause the goaltending was practically a hair below perfection. Now that other teams are ramping up their effort, we need some by committee contributions to win.

As Darryl said, Treliving built a terrible team with no secondary scoring and Markstrom had some great games but he has also been very average. Many of the games we lost were due to him being the 2nd best goalie like last night.

Markstrom has been great this season but he's always had an issue with stinkers and this was a game of multiple bad goals against. I can't fault the team too much for last night's loss as it's nearly impossible to overcome bad goaltending against a good team like the Bruins. One of Markstrom or Vladar is going to have to put forth a really good effort for the team to get out of this winless streak.

Still not sure how giving $30 million to Coleman was supposed to help with the Flames issues of secondary scoring. Certainly hasn't helped this season.

Different era but we need a move like when Cliff Fletcher identified a scoring need and got us Joey Mullen.

Another game where the Flames had the edge in play but lost. Markstrom wasn’t on, the Flames didn’t create great chances despite the large margin in shots, especially before the first goal, and like DS said, Boston scored every time the Flames were putting on the pressure.

I’ll preface this by saying I only watched the first, and parts of the second and third, but this is what I saw. They may have won the corsi battle, but the Flames could not have made a clean pass to save their life. The power play seemed especially stagnant, no quick passes, lots of standing around - they made it easy on the Bruins for the most part. They’re just sloppy.

I think the Flames need a shakeup as in a trade and improve the depth.
It was good to see Tkachuk get a goal on his birthday.
Even though the Flames outshot the Bruins 42-27 they seemed a little off tonight, like they weren't quite ready.
Next 2 games on the road against Chicago and Nashville and I think they'll do better and even win in these games.

Why does it seem like we get a few games at home and then are on the road again to start this year? We must have a crapload of home games in the 2nd half.

Yeah, that's looking like yet another Treliving free agent dud so far. You can't be giving that much money out if you're not getting the goals to justify it.

Flames have some kind of weird funk when they play at home. If they keep pressing like they have been they eventually will punch through it.
For all of the complaints by a few posters when the Flames did not acquire Taylor Hall he sure hasn't stood out to me at all this year. Give me Coleman and his grit and defensive prowess over Hall any day.
Win a couple of road games then bring that back to the Dome before Christmas and all is well.

Not concerned at all. At all.
2 inches, twice, seperated from RW vs Carolina, and other games where the opponents were fortunate to get to OT in the first place, so Flames effort and matchup vs other teams are just fine.
Top line created a half decent chance every shift yesterday, it really is amazing to see making some chance out of a couple passes and skill moves. That will click instead of a MT post last night or a couple Hallmark saves he had no idea he saved, and games like that go the other way.
Markstrom mishap on the first goal, Backlund softness and laziness on the second on a nothing chance from the Bruins that turned to a goal because Backlund was out of position and afraid of being anywhere physical with a player smaller then him.
Generally this year, you don't see those types of mistakes with the Flames this year and that was the difference in the score last night.
Mang doesn't look like setting the world on fire. Dube had a clear cut chance and time fires it in the stomach. So some secondary scoring would help, as usual, but the Flames arenjt being dominated or even beaten over 60 mins, effort wise or possession wise.
At some points that work will come to fruition in results.

First Line Centre
|
Like Darryl said, and as others have pointed out, story of the game was weak goaltending and weak secondary scoring.
The roster looking like it has the same imbalance as always. Great wingers, decent defense, and next to nothing through the middle.
Lindholm is 20th in the league at 5 on 5 points, but only has 1 primary assist. The next highest scoring C at 5 on 5 is Backlund at 105th (!!) in the league. A legit top centre really would balance the roster out so much better.
I thought Ruzicka looked good in his limited minutes. Moves around well for a big man and had some decent touches. The bottom 6 is really slowing them down. Pelletier, Phillips, and Gawdin should all get rotations in.

Last year our best players couldn’t produce . This year it’s the secondary players that can’t produce. Backlund and Mony need to start producing. I’m not talking taking baby steps to getting better. I’m talking putting goals in the net right now. They are paid to much for “ they are looking a little better, just a matter of time “.

Paying a career, really good 3rd liner, 2nd line money, hoping for 2nd line offensive production was never going to be a good idea for this team. Never mind his age.
Frustrating.
