Was there ever any truth to Iginla knocking him out in a parking lot fight back in the day?
I think I would lose some respect for Iginla if I found out that he was fighting people on the street (even another player). He seems better than that.

Went waaaaaay back for this one, this thread is an example of the frenzy Dion stirred up on CP when he arrived in the NHL. Man we’re we excited. Absolutley ridiculous to read back on
Favorite Dion moment was this one game...don't remember which one it was...Flames were on a power play and they kept feeding him the puck...I swear he had like 10 shots in the one shift and never hit the net once.

Yeah, I remember it too. It was a 5 on 3 and it was Iggy and Dion putting on a shooting gallery. They kept missing the net and the puck kept coming around back to the other guy, never seen anything like it.

We were in the crowd howling at the repeated high and wide and around the boards, rinse and repeat

I wasn’t at that game, but I was at this game:
Just another example of how “larger than life” the guy felt the first few years. Just an insane player.

He was the first player that I got a named jersey for. I honestly thought he'd retire as a Flame as an all time great. Those first 3 seasons really did feel like the sky was the limit for Dion. Who would have thought those would end up being his prime years, and he'd decline so much after that. Not really sure what happened.
I really think that when the team lost Roman Hamrlik, it required Phaneuf to do far more than he was capable of doing for the team too early in his career without a comparable replacement. He was always an excellent number 2 or 3 PP trigger man in my mind, but not someone who can do all the heavy lifting of a true number 1.
Not to say Hamrlik was this guy either, but he certainly did an admirable job of giving the Flames great value within the top 4 at the time.
