I think that’s why Darryl prefers Kylington over Valimaki, because even though he plays smaller and gets manhandled seemingly every other game, he’s very nimble and can recover quickly whereas once you beat Valimaki, he’s done.

I’ve never seen Kylington get manhandled. I’m often actually impressed by his strength consider his size. He regularly squeezes out top forwards. The dude is solid.

No way, I remember Gio looking very good early on in his career. I think the first time he caught my eye was in the playoff series against Detroit. Think he even scored a pretty nice goal too.
Gio’s problem was all the defensemen in front of him on the depth chart.

Has anyone actually got a shot off on a breakaway when he is on the ice this year? His speed can close in on anybody. The holy one included.

I don’t know what it is, his bio says he’s 6 feet. But he looks tiny out there. I’ve noticed a few instances where he’s been absolutely crushed into the boards and I thought to myself, he’s done for the game.
Good for him though to dust himself off and grind it out. He’s not nearly as shifty as a Gaudreau, but he’s pretty durable for an undersized defenseman.

Valamaki has been out of position without the hits, it's simple, he hasn't been good enough for Sutter to trust him.

Valimaki obviously hasnt been watching Monahan. Keep your mouth shut and work harder. Whining isn’t going to work with Sutter.

I think he tested at a little over 190lbs at the start of camp and top 3 in fitness, even if he's under 6' ... he's solid.

He's pretty skinny and likely only 5'10-11. The rest of the D-core are all either 6'2'' or 215+. He's significantly smaller than the rest.

No, Kylington was listed at 6'0" after his combine way back in 2015. Unless you think he's lost two inches since the Flames drafted him.
The idea that he gets manhandled is also just absurd.

I don't buy that at all (the out of position part).

The Google translation of the whole article is barely comprehensible, so I wouldn't fully trust it to get the nuance of what he may have said.
Quote:
CALGARY Flames played in the NHL round on Friday in Toronto, but the team's only Finnish player, Juuso Välimäki, was not in the trough.
Välimäki, 23, watched his teammates play in the upper loft of Scotiabank Arena.
The situation is already becoming unfortunate for Nokia. He has already watched seven Flames matches on the pipe from the pipe shelf.

Sutter knows what he's doing.
He can be hard on young players, and honestly sometimes I think he tries to piss them off as a way of getting to them.
But he certainly isn't purposely making selections to weaken his roster to spite Valimaki or hockey fans.

I wouldn't say he is skinny. I think his slender face is misleading. There was an offseason training video of OK posted on Instagram a while back (seems to be removed now), but he was pretty ripped with probably as close to 0% body fat as one can get.
