Yeah - he was bad in pre-season but he's been great in the actual season so far.
Sheltered minutes but they've faired really well during those minutes.

Through two games ... Calgary defenseman in terms of xGA60
Gudbranson 0.82
Valimaki 0.88
Hanifin 1.8
Andersson 1.82
Zadorov 2.54
Tanev 2.69
Valimaki - Gudbranson is the third best d pairing in the league at this point with an xGF% of 84%.
Gudbranson isn't coming out.
Nor is he going to keep up this pace!

I’m happy Sutter is willing to mix it up so dramatically after 2 close games to find the best chemistry as he’s says in his presser. Huge opportunity for Kylington to establish himself as a legitimate top 4 and give the Flames a potential boost in breaking out of their own zone. While Mangiapane does seem buried in the lineup I like that he’s paired with 2 other guys with strong motors and North-South styles. As long as Dube can succeed in his center matchups I don’t mind Ritchie bringing the beef because at least he’ll be trying to keep up (as it looked to me like Monahan was a step behind even as the trailer).
As a skeptical fan of Treliving’s lack of core moves this off-season, I’m heartened by Sutters open mindedness to get most out of what he’s got to work with.

20% because it feels good, 80% so that this place isn't insufferable until the next game.

The Flames in general have played great 5v5, so pretty much every "expected" metric is going to look awesome up and down the lineup.
Now some people don't buy that they are playing that well and that these stats aren't measuring danger very well. That's another argument entirely.

For sure ... the same argument.
Are advanced metrics perfect? No. But they're better than nothing, and at least we don't have 30 pages of eye test arguments.
Bottom line the Flames have given up the second least shot attempts from the home plate area. That can never be a bad thing.
But in the "it's early" category ... Buffalo is 1st.

Because our '14 4OA is doing so well in Florida, it's only fair that their '10 3OA is doing the same for us.

And, 3-0 on the season. It's a solid indicator that Calgary is unlucky to have a win on the season.

This is a nationally televised game and is also on Sportsnet East and Ontario channels in addition to the West channel. The Flames game is not on the Pacific channel.

These Sutter pressers are the only thing keeping me somewhat invested in this team. He just presses those buttons in a way that remains firm but respectful.
Love the call out of Markstrom after two games. Time to step up and be an actual Number One goalie.

Those 2 have been pylons thus far.

I think Gudbranson has been one of our best defensemen thus far… I don’t expect that to last the while season. Definitely not a pylon
