while I guess we can debate whether this is true or not, in a way this should not be a surprise- I'm of the opinion that the one thing the Vegas/Seattle expansion format allowed for is depth on defence. due to the expansion parameters there is really no reason for an expansion team to have to have any '3rd pairing' type dmen- they get the pick for the most part of number 4s at worst (and in Gio and or other contract/age type situations even better)

Lots of teams wouldn't have a true #4 available though because of an expiring contract or lack of depth.

I said not just in this thread...there is plenty of complaining about Zadorov and the D in this thread if you have eyes.

Zadorov who was better than any of the Flames D in a recent playoff series

So Seattle has better D now? which team will allow less goals?

I am pretty confident the Flames will allow less this season

I’d expect a guy who chooses such a handle to be markedly better at reading comprehension

When did Zadorov dominate an NHL playoff series? Exaggerating his play isn't helping either. He was ok against a Flames team who couldn't do much, and it wasn't because of Zadorov.

He wasn't even the best defenseman on his pair, Ian Cole was. Zadorov was just more "noticable".

I like Tkachuk - Lindholm - Coleman

Let Tkachuk and Gaudreau both play LW. Mangiapane can play where ever he is needed

I felt he dominated the Flames...said it at the time too

He was better than any Flames dmen including Gio who was having his best season

Flames couldn't do much partly because of Zadorov pounding them every time they touched the puck...more than okay IMO

We will see, I got mocked for saying similar about Tanev last offseason

I think some of you also forget that Zadorov is 26 and not 36, still young for a dman

Yes. The collective opinion about the futures of an expansion team being wrong once means that every collective opinion about an expansion team is now wrong.

I expect virtually nothing of quality or substance from you.

Two things that VGK entered their inaugural season with that Seattle does not have: 1) a quality, high-end NHL coach; 2) a first-ballot Hall of Fame goaltender.

Vegas made some really good side deals too...Seattle priced everything too high and came away empty handed

Quote:
SEATTLE -- Mark Giordano was the first player on the ice when the Seattle Kraken opened their inaugural training camp Thursday, and when practice ended with a bag skate, guess who led his teammates?

Giordano, the defenseman who turns 38 on Oct. 3, the oldest player on the roster.

It did not go unnoticed.

It inspired the leader of the organization, Kraken president and CEO Tod Leiweke, who ran up to Giordano as he came off the ice to give him a hug and a pat on the back.

"Just awesome to see him out there skating that hard, man," Leiweke said afterward. "I'm going to go work hard at my desk now."

Giordano has seemed an obvious candidate to become the first captain of the Kraken since they selected him in the 2021 NHL Expansion Draft on July 21. He was captain of the Calgary Flames the past eight seasons and won the Mark Messier NHL Leadership Award in 2019-20.
