It’s nothing spectacular, but +8 is better than -16.

He’s a defenseman. Probably not someone you want on the power play, but his possession stats have been trending upward for two years, even as he starts in the defensive zone more often than not.

At a glance, it doesn’t seem the worst route to go to replace some of Gio’s minutes - seems like a quality player on a mid-range ticket.

I would rather have Coleman than Palmieri, but it always comes down to cost.

I love that the Oilers bought out Neal today and will be paying for the next 4 years...while we are resistant to giving up Lucic for Zucker (a guy we were going to pay a 1st for a couple years back before the deal broke down at the deadline).

...just in case anyone was wondering....E=NG and horribly lost that deal...

I would do this with great enthusiasm and happiness. Lucic for Zucker? Sounds too good to be true.

Lucic has a NMC and Zucker has a NTC that Calgary is probably on.

Of note — Lucic is now obliged to submit an 8-team trade list (as of June 1)

Really? How come? I'd take Palmieri every time.

Coleman puts up pretty much as many points and is more versatile. Palmieri's numbers seem to be declining, and without production, he isn't that valuable.

With Pittsburgh losing Taney, they are likely looking to add some snarl in the middle 6.

Pittsburgh will probably just sign Nick Ritchie now

I would do the trade. Zucker is only signed for this coming season and the following one, so not many years left (same as Lucic). Definitely will add speed to this team, but it will lose much needed snarl and leadership. I would miss Lucic quite a lot, but I would do this trade. I am not very high on Zucker, however, but it will give this team more speed and more versatility.

Shows you how far Lucic has rebounded and found a really good role on this team. I haven't checked last season's analytics for the most part, but Lucic usually has really strong numbers. He is a good player, and he brings a lot on and off the ice to this team. I would still do it, but I will miss Lucic.

at one time it was
Frolik and a 1st for Zucker
Then Bennett for Zucker
Now Lucic for Zucker

I'm a bit late to the game here, but I'm wondering if Burke feels bad about the whole Neal signing and subsequent Lucic saga. Perhaps trying to help out his buddy with a deal to take him off his hands? I like Lucic the human a ton. I detest his contract. In the context of understanding the ramifications of his contract, this would be like the Flames winning the lottery to get that much money off the books. Assuming they don't do another Neal/Brouwer signing, this could help the team dramatically.

Zucker was basically at a 20 goal pace last season.

Isn’t Mangiapane already doing that?

I’d rather work out a deal with Arizona involved then. Have them take on Zucker, we take on Kessel, and the Pens Lucic.

Frees up the extra year we’d have Lucic, and I personally want a top 6 RW that still has good skill. Zucker scares me. I don’t know if he will be the Minnesota Zucker or the Pittsburgh Zucker. At least with Kessel I know I can get points from him, and he only has a year left on his contract. Not sure he’d go for Calgary though.

Gaudreau - Lindholm - Tkachuk
Mangiapane - Monahan - Kessel
N. Ritchie - Backlund - Dube

Would be an ideal top 9.

I'd say there's little traction happening on the Milan Lucic move. I'm skeptical.

Personally was very happy with Lucic last year and thought he’s been a consummate pro so far. The trade for Neal at this point is a clear win for the flames even if you took the retention of Lucic and the 3rd we got away and made it straight up one for one which to me is incredible. I really don’t want to see the guy traded, he can play meaningful minutes still and is a glue guy on a contending team. Let’s hope we can build a contender this off-season.

I agree. I’m fine with Lucic in our bottom 6 as long as we add one more top six player.

I’d be okay with that as well. Good suggestion.
