Has McTavish going 2nd overall today, if we could get this kid at 13th it would be a steal.

I expect there will be lots of players that drop. Surprises galore.

I think the goalie goes before the Flames pick, perhaps to the Wings.

Most teams will be initially quite pleased their pick, but the truth will takes years to determine.

If not the Flames, I hope someone picks Coronato before the Oilers' turn. I have a bad feeling he could turn out to be a real player, particularly if he gets to play on a line with one of McDavid or Draisaitl in a couple years.

McDavid and Draisaitl will likely be long gone before Coronato has a chance to play in the NHL. I think we see one of them dealt after another failure next year, prompting the other one to demand a trade as well. So unless Coronato makes the jump immediately, the odds of him playing with those two are small. I see the Oilers a year from a major retool or rebuild.

Even though Coronato is an older player in this draft I suspect he's going to take some time. I'm always hesitant to get excited about players out of the USHL as it is not exactly the best development league around, probably on par with tier 2 junior. Players coming out of the USHL need development time. Plus, as gaudy as Coronato's numbers were, they weren't even close to leading his team. He was 16 points behind Sean Farrell, a Montreal 4th round pick. The kid has finishing ability, but can that ability translate to the next level? That's where the development comes in. Good piece to have, but he's a few years away.

Coronato will be in the NHL in 1 to 3 years. McDavid and Draisaitl both have at least 4 years left. I think what you're saying is a stretch.

But I will agree that the chances of actually playing on that line as a real contributor are relatively low.

Based on as small a sample provided this last season there would have been a good chance that Robbie Schremp could have gone #1 OA. ( He had short stretches where he looked dominate)

What is the chance that the Flames have everyone on their pick-em list when it comes to their pick and trades down 4-5 spots so they don't have to make an evaluation and pick one over the other?

This year it might be the way to go because the last 80 games for these prospects reach over 3 years and there have been so few graduates from the last 2 drafts.

The guys drafted in 2018, 19, 20 had no chance to make an impression at their NHL training camps and NHL exhibition games. That moved the 2021 prospects back on the depth charts and opportunity to shine in their limited junior play.
