I know what you were thinking, but ask yourself this: if the killer was a white man named "John Smith" born and raised in Calgary, with the exact same photo, would you have guessed some connection to ISIS or Boko Haram? This is not a suggestion of anything sinister or wrong on your part. But be honest with yourself, was it the crime and the photo? Or was it everything combined?
I would definitely think twice about a person regardless of skin colour if they posted a similar photo. I wouldn't automatically think terrorist, but I would think that they are posturing in a way that is meant to intimidate. I would make the same character judgement about them that I would seeing someone wear a MAGA hat. Maybe their head was just cold, but I doubt it.
Honestly, I don't think this guy had political motives but was likely mimicking political imagery to be edgy.
If I had to guess at motive, given his past record, he is probably just a violent person
Put it this way, I have no problem judging the intentions of this guy for the same reasons:
Is that what I said? I know you’ve got issues with the justice system due to some things that have happened in your life. Go bait someone else if you want to have that debate.
Everyone should have issues with the justice system because it's a failure, especially with violent crimes.

2018 - assault X2 (3 months in jail) assault causing bodily harm (4 months) assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest (1 month)
2019 - assault with a weapon causing bodily harm (failed to appear in court)
2020 - threatening to stab two city employees (6 months time served)
2021 - shouldn't have happened period

So if I do go on a stabbing spree, but don't post pictures of me in a Keffiyeh, I will be labelled as a frustrated young man who had a very bad day ?
Is it really a stretch to suggest that someone with history of extreme violence may have posted a picture that purposely mimicked the kinds of photos militants take of themselves or was glorifying it? The guy is from Quebec, not Morocco and it doesn't look like he was at a ski resort, and went on a stabbing spree. But better not question his character or intentions I guess.
It was only a few months ago we watched terrorists storm the White House covering their faces in a similar fashion, and I don't think it was to protect themselves from the dust or heat of the western Sahara.

This is common. Almost every single person the police deal with have a conviction history like this. It's about time this starts getting more publicity because if you want to see why defunding the police is difficult, it's because this is a constant problem. Commit serious crimes, get out of jail and do it again.
We have serious societal problems with no solutions. The Seattle is Dying documentary has its detractors but it points to a lot of issues while at the same time offering some solutions. It's worth a watch.

No, we did not. They stormed the Capitol Building. The president lives in the White House. If they had stormed the White House we probably would have seen the largest slaughter of Americans by US Troops seen since the Civil War.
Yeah I’ve watched both of those and they’re excellent. I think there’s a major difference between a homeless person that is down on their luck and staying in shelters and accessing income support, and those that are chronic criminals while living on the street. And it’s complex. Mental health and addiction often isn’t a choice and people with those issues are misunderstood and treated poorly in society. The solutions aren’t easy.

Sorry, I know the difference. I just misspoke.
My point is, those images and associations aren't limited to one culture or geographic area. Regular everyday Americans and Canadians, like this particular guy, are associated with it just as much as anyone.
If anything, suggesting that maybe the images had something to do with African culture because he is black, is a bigger example of racial stereotyping. The guy is a regular everyday Canadian as far as I am concerned and is capable of the same stupid stuff other Canadians have done in the past, that includes posting images glorifying violence.

I don’t know why you didn’t quit while you were ahead.
Suggesting the images had something to do with African culture? Name one person who did that.
Someone saw a picture of a Canadian Black man in a mask and said he looked like a Boko Haram or ISIS supporter, that was kind of weird.
Someone also said the same photo was glorifying violence, that was weird too.
I can’t believe I missed this whole weird thread; I would have been all over the fact that he is from Quebec. Everyone knows they dress funny, talk funny, smell like wine&cheese, and hate the left side.

Well, he's actually from the Ivory Coast in West Africa, so basically like Quebec without the wine&cheese
