I dont look at Markys performance this season as an indictment on him but the overall roster composition as a whole. Signing him wasn't a failure . Performing more surgery on the roster is a failure. This is twice now tree has tried to supplement this core and its blown up in his face. Markys and Tanev are great signings. The lack of a core shake up is what has gotten us to this point here today.

More proof you're Treliving! Everything is a long game!

Or you're Benning.

Would you believe that I am both?

I want to be wrong, but as I said before we signed Marky-I feel that sooner, rather than later, he will become the whipping boy. To me, he's always been a mediocre goalie, who had a few great years (maybe due in part to his magical goalie coach), and now he will begin falling back to earth. Unpopular opinion, I know, and I hope I'm wrong.

I happened to be driving around 1:15 or so and happened to catch Rintoul with the Vancouver Athletic guy (Dansz?) - they were talking about both team's goaltending situation and Markstrom in perticular. This Dansz fellow, who knows Markstrom well from before, obviously, thought that the Flames had really butchered their G usage this season and had "blown" Markstrom early. He said that he had been much better managed in Vancouver, and that the Flames should really look at grabbing Clarke after the season, as he wasn't going to remain in VAN. I think that was the gist of it. Basically that Clarke had done a much better job managing Markstrom, and the goalies in general, then what the Flames were doing.

Markstrom will come good, if he has the right people around him. The flames need to get his goalie coach over regardless of the cost. He is very temperamental, but when hes on he can be our difference maker.

Honestly I'm not worried about Markstrom long-term. Has he dropped off his play recently? Absolutely. But I also think the team rode him pretty hard when he needed more rest and overall barely gave him any support before Sutter arrived.

Would be nice to see the team score their way out of the hole once in a while instead of hoping the goalie only lets in 1 or 2 every game.

Overall I think he's part of the solution and I certainly don't see his contract as an albatross going forward. It's taken 5+ years to fill that goaltending hole and the last thing I want is the team to send him off hoping for something better. No goalie is fixing this team right now anyways. Hopefully with the changes that occur in the offseason the team can get him better support.
