Is the ‘it was all Ward’ crowd now coming around on the fact the issues go much deeper?
Something like 10 shots on goal from forwards tonight.

Not a single shot attempt from the right point.

I lost that battle with my youngest two before they got to middle school. Good luck, but keep your expectations low.

All three are great pieces but not primary pieces. This team is missing an elite game-breaking forward (preferably a Centre) and a #1 two-way defenceman.
Hanifin could become that defenceman, under Daryl.
Bennett should have been our #1C, which would allow Monahan and Backlund to slot in at 2/3, where they belong. I do like Bennett and the way he plays, but it’s time to accept that the highest pick in franchise history has been a bust, and that’s set the franchise back considerably.
Any elite centres on the UFA list this summer?

Not a single poster of CP ever said it was ALL Ward, let alone a crowd.

Flames got out-classed tonight. Both goals against were pretty meh, but they deserved the result they got.
Lots to work on.

Jack Campbell was the best player on the ice. Not saying Calgary deserved to win, but ....

I don't agree with that. I think Matthews and Marner were the best players on the ice. Campbell was hardly tested at all.

I beat this drum a lot but: I have ~thirty-three years of Flames fandom under my belt, and maybe three years out of those not characterized by disappointment and frustration. That's pretty rough. I haven't even lived in Calgary for over ten years now. Why do I keep doing this to myself?

It’s hard man. The bitter disappointment year after year while at the same time you have to put up with all the noise from the most spoiled fan base in the league three hours to the North.

Go back in threads. There’s a healthy contingent...didn’t imply majority though.

Draft Pick

Not surprised they lost and with only 23 games remaining there is no way they make the playoffs.

I realize this is a joke but the best available UFA centre is RNH

I struggle to see how this team finds success with Gaudreau and Monahan on the roster. That “dynamic duo” is now the Duo of Disaster.
|
I agree. We're not going to win anything with Gaudreau and Monahan as our key pieces up front. Far too soft and lackadaisical in their play. I'm quite ready to move on. We need better.

Jack Campbell wasn't even a factor in the game lol as I said in the GT midway through the game, he could've taken a nap and still woken up with a shutout.
The Flames didn't have anything even remotely dangerous thrown his direction.

I don’t think there were any, or very many people saying it was all Ward.
Ward was absolutely a huge part of the problem, but that does not mean issues with the roster are not significant.
Also, the team is 4-2 under Sutter. That’s pretty fantastic.

Jack Campbell had a really easy night, man
Since he only had to make one decent save, it was cool that he went with the pad stack

They play MTL five times in seven games in April. The other two are against Ottawa. That stretch will likely determine their fate.
Edit: meant to reply to post proclaiming the season is over

His best save was the two pad stack on Chucky ... otherwise I don’t know if any of his saves would make the highlights. Flames were just inept and ineffective tonight.
