I haven't been as impressed with Nesterov as many others. Don't hate him or anything, nice for a 6th D, nothing more or less.

In any case, nice to see Mackey get some NHL time.

I get that they need to roll in some taxi squad guys once in a while, but I’m not sure now is that time. This team still needs to make up some ground on other teams . I get it’s the lousy Canucks but anything less than 3-1 in this 4 game span is not good. They go 50/50 against Canucks and they are losing points to other teams that have feasted on them. I would have waited till the 4th game to see where they were before making taxi squad moves.

I highly doubt Kylington has much trade value if any. He could have been picked up for free a month ago. The guy is making league minimum, so it wasn’t about cap space preventing him getting picked up.

Exactly three teams have feasted on the Canucks and one of those teams is Calgary. Vancouver has beaten Edmonton, Winnipeg and Montreal in a shootout. In fact, Winnipeg's only game v. Vancouver was a loss.

The Flames will be perfectly fine even if they do come out with a split in this four-game set.

Interesting.

Valimaki got a tonne of ice time last game... which means coaching staff is very comfortable with him taking responsibility. He's a mature for a young player, enough so to help ease in another youngster.

Just curious , is Kylington eligible for the draft or has he not played enough NHL games? Flames doing what they did with Valimaki? Keep his games down to avoid him being claimed?

Sooooo you protect Kylington and even Nesterov by not playing them too much. Smart!

That's the team requirement to expose players with a certain number of NHL games played. However, if not protected, a player can still be claimed even if he doesn't meet that requirement. This was the case with Engelland last time, I believe.

Engelland played 81 games.

The Flames need one defenseman to meet the exposure requirements for experience and contract status.

But the exposure requirements do not apply to EVERYONE who is left exposed. If a player isn't a first- or second-year pro and they're not protected by their team, they can be picked.

The exposure requirements are in place to ensure that the expansion team will have some assets to choose from with NHL experience. But once a team satisfies the exposure requirements — which apply to two forwards, one defenseman, and one goalie — there are no restrictions about who else they can expose.

Engelland didn't meet the exposure requirements, but he was picked.

Thanks, that confused me. But how did Engelland not meet the requirements? Because he was a pending UFA?

Yup.

Exposure requirements for forwards and defense in 2017 were that they either needed to play 40 games in 2016-17 or 70 games between 2015-16 and 2016-17 combined, and they needed to be under contract through 2017-18. The experience requirement did not apply to goaltenders, who could also be pending RFAs.

Team needed to expose at least two forwards, one D, and one G who met the requirements. Beyond that... open season, except for first- and second-year pros.

Here are the Flames' players who helped them meet the exposure requirements in 2017:

Forwards: Troy Brouwer and Matt Stajan
Defense: Matt Bartkowski
Goaltender: Tom McCollum

So you have to feel like the Canucks are on their knees. They seem to be waiting for the other shoe to drop, or the merciful embrace of the Grim Reaper.

The Flames need to oblige them by kicking their teeth out tonight.

LOL. Principe talking about how the diversity program helped newcomers to Canada “including indigenous youth”. Not sure how they are newcomers.

Hopefully the Flames watched the Jets lose to the Sens.

Hoping it's this. He's been good so far this year.

They do need to get the 7/8 guys some game time in case someone goes down.

This is a nice problem to have on the back end.
