Development and coaching has a lot to do with it.
Ian Clark is one of the top goalie coaches in the world. When Bobrovsky was in Columbus, Clark helped to evolve him into a Vezina level goalie. Then he went to Vancouver and took a goalie that cleared waivers in Markstrom and turned him into a top tier starter.
What we really need is a guy like Ian Clark who can unlock the potential of Rittich and our prospects.

Talbot is excellent for his prize. Whether you want to take your chances with Rittich or try signing a more proven goalie is IMO a matter of debate, but at this point keeping Talbot seems like a no-brainer to me.

With the rumors floating around of multiple goalies being potentially available through trade or free agency, should Calgary target any one?

The Penguins are believed to have one standing offer on the table for two-time Cup winner Murray. The Maple Leafs, Oilers, Flames, Senators, Sabres and maybe even Avalanche are among the potential suitors for Murray’s services – a list that may soon grow.

I don't get the preoccupation with the goalie carousel. Mike Smith was fine in the playoffs vs Colorado. Talbot was fine in the playoffs too. They're not losing because of goaltending.
The number one issue is a franchise quality center. It's been a glaring hole since December 19, 1995. So for 25-years...and counting...

Couldn't disagree more.
I'm against the acquisition of any goaltender who is over 30.
The Flames need stability in net. At least Murray is young and has a track record. It's just too bad he has injury problems and has regressed.
It's too bad the Flames already missed out on Lehner, Andersen, and Philipp Grubauer, all goalies who have moved while Treliving has been the GM of the Flames.

I don't think Grubauer is all that good. I mean, he's fine, but certainly not of the same calibre as Lehner and Andersen.

If we can get Matt Murray, we should. I don’t care if he’s ‘regressed’- Fleury had a rough few years too, he’s still a Hall of Fame goalie.
Murray’s best can win two Cups.
Get him.

Murrays best can hold you in it while Crosby/Malkin/Letang/Kessel win you two cups.

Was it Burke, or the guy who still hasn't found a single decent goalie in 6 years? You be the judge.

I don't think it matters who you want to place blame on whether it be the scouts, GM, or Burke. Brian explained they were concerned over the surgeries Demko had so they went with the, in their opinion, healthier option in MacDonald.
Obviously in hindsight that was a poor decision. In the end, they all know more than we do. For every Macdonald or Hunter, there's an Andersson or Dube.

Vancouver grows goalies the same way Nashville grows defensemen.
Demko would have busted for us and Macdonald would already by now be a Vezina winner.
We chose what we had to choose.
