Holtby! he ####ing sucks
Lenher and Markstrom are the guys
I think Markstrom is the best goalie in the NHL and would back up the truck...worst case you force Vancouver

I think I'd still look at either Talbot or Rittich. Goaltending was not this team's fundamental problem.

Talbot was good for much of the playoffs...but goaltending was certainly an issue this season

It’s scary how much the team’s fortunes next season depend on a guy who has played 26 games in the NHL and is coming off a serious injury stepping in as a first or second pairing defenceman.

Coach. I think it is 60-40 they keep Ward. He is signed for next year and the team was better under him and they seem to be cheap when it comes to coaches
Goalies. I think Rittich is done as a Flame. Talbot is likely a plan B scenario but I hope the Flames are going to try and get a reliable number 1. While Talbot won the team games he crumbled when they needed him the most.

What a difference a year makes. 2019 Vinny01 after I suggested Monahan, Gaudreau and Gio be traded.

I realistically see less change coming this summer than last with more tweaks to add some size and grit. Guys like Brodie, Frolik won’t be back but it would be shocking to see one of the fab 5 this year moved let alone 3.

Really losing this series is probably a good outcome long term. We’d be worse off if we’d won a round, lost to Vegas next round, only to then make no changes in the off season since we “took a step”.
This core has some good pieces but it’s not the right mix, and we need to shake it up a bit.
Step 1) Hire a real coach, preferably Boudreau or Gallant.
Step 2) Understand what they want to do with the roster and build a roster to fit an identity.
Step 3) Try to retool the prospect pool by moving out players that don’t fit the identity and sign UFAs needed to fill the roster. Make sure any assets acquired in trades fit into our expansion draft plans.
My personal plan would be:
-Hire Bruce Boudreau
-Build a team roster based on speed, and aggressive puck pursuit, with some sand paper
Core Pieces I’d keep: Tkachuk, Lindholm, Dube, Bennett, Mangiapane, Andersson, Valimaki, Rittich (don’t think you get much for him and I like his potential still), Kylington
Pieces I’d shop but would only move for the right return: Gaudreau, Monahan (only if it’s upgrading Center postion or a top 5 pick), Hanifin, Backlund
Veterans I’d look to move in the right scenario: Giordano, Ryan, Lucic
Internal UFAs I’d be open to re-signing: Brodie, Reider, Talbot
Prospects I’d Promote: Gawdin, Phillips
External UFAs I’d look at: Hall, Krug, Demelo, Gudas
I know people want to look at a big name goalie UFA but I’d stay away from that. I honestly can’t recall a big name goalie UFA signing that unquestionably worked out. Goaltending is so dependant on the team style and play that I wouldn’t sink Top End UFA money into that position.

Man, Reinhart and Lindholm are both wingers.
Bennett is a centre. Don't do him like that.
Also, Sam Reinhart just isn't that good. Dude is genuinely a leech. They stapled him on Eichel's line as RW and left him there for a reason. No more leeches.

Name one player that has scored more goals than Monahan from the '13 draft.

Markstrom or Lehner
Offer Markstrom a massive deal...worst case it forces the Canucks to pay market rate. I think he is the best goalie in the league

I think Talbot was good enough throughout the year to be re-signed if it's for a reasonable contract.

Off the ice, they need a proven coach. I think Treliving survives.

#2 with a major caveat.
The organization has suffered from a dearth of NHL caliber right handed shots pretty much since Iggy was traded. And honestly I can't think of one aside from Iggy.
Desperately need to add a top 6 RH forward (to complement Lindholm) and a top 2 RH D (I can't even name one since Mcinnis, Dougie Hamilton?!).

Nope. 194 for Mony, 190 for MacKinnon.

Only comment I’m going to make tonight:
If you’re trading Gaudreau and Monahan, please give Bennett an opportunity. First line, powerplay, 15-18 minutes a night.

Yes, no issue with Talbot. Rittich is an anchor. He has confidence issues game by game at the best of times, and ever since his " all Star by default" appearances he's been a nightmare, pulled multiple times.
Ward needs to step back to his old role. Treliving rolled the dice keeping him in the full time role, when I think they needed to hire the replacement 6 weeks after.
The "players coach" was what Treliving got away from after GG, because the team didn't take orders well from that kind of guy, but then they got a guy who was a players coach. Save for Lucic, not sure if the coaching style change benefitted anyone really, considering how Peters had them playing last regular season.
How drastic does the roster change? Given a flat cap, not sure.
Brodie was great all year and he had a health scare. Gio not his best playoffs. Hanifin would've liked to have seen more offensive in the playoffs. Gustafsson was good pick up and the PP would've been worse without him.
Prize goose Valamaki has big shoes to fill next year especially as Mark Stone continues on in the playoffs this year. Forbort was decent as well as a number 6. Not a lot of complaints about the defense this year.
Forwards, you have question marks in Lucic, Bennett as to them playing like this for 2/3 of the games next year. Tkachuk sure, but I think they still need a 2c and push Backlund down to 3c. Mommy and Johnny, who knows. Lindholm looking out if it in the playoffs. So a lot of questions up front. And then chicken and egg....new coach will want certain players and roles.

If you move on from Monahan and Gaudreau does an elite coach want to come for a rebuild/retool? Could we get top 10 picks for each of Monahan and Gaudreau from Buffalo/New Jersey, maybe even Ottawa if you add a little?
For me thats all we need to do, move those two, draft a centre and a forward, Brodie will walk, dont sign Hall, and sign a good goalie on a 3 year deal for good dollars.
