Definitely want to see the game #2 win. Keep the momentum going for the good guys. Don't give Dallas an inch. Cant let them into the series.

So it's not just pro scouting, it's contract value that made that move some what logical from a Flames standpoint.

Got the team a first place in the West, but they didn't get it done in the playoffs last year, and missed the year before that.
Is a $3.857 mil cap hit really considered a 5/6 salary these days?

This year's team feels different. I expect a hard fought game, but sincerely hope they can break the game two curse and put Dallas on the ropes!

Yeah - like for example you could take that currency and acquire a young hard-nosed D-Man on a sweet-heart contract to make multiple runs during the "Prime" of our core!

I think it's important to remember the context of why we traded for him as well. Remember we had just spent most of the season with Wideman at 2RD and our other alternative was Stone. I thought Stone had stepped in admirably and Brodie-Stone was arguably our best pair down the stretch and in the playoffs, but it was clear that 2RD was identified as a weak spot that needed to be addressed. I think BT was stuck between: a) leaving a known weakness in the roster and hoping it doesn't bite us, or b) overpaying to fill that slot. I think if he tried to pay fair value for Hamonic the trade doesn't happen, and we're instead complaining that he can't make a trade for D. Sometimes the ideal move just doesn't exist.

I also think we'd be remiss to ignore how good Hanifin-Hamonic were in their first regular season. They played as many minutes as Gio-Brodie and put up a 55.72 xGF% (higher than Gio-Brodie). They faceplanted in playoffs and were bad this year, but that doesn't erase their contribution to that 107 point year.

All that being said, he wasn't worth what we paid and the team is better with Andersson in that spot, but the move wasn't completely without merit.

Flames haven't enjoyed a 2-0 series lead since the WCF against the Sharks in 2004.

Sure would be great to change that.

This game feels like a "Honda Center Curse" game to me. History has no real bearing on the present when it comes to hockey, but the Flames could do themselves a huge favour by making that clear and giving us one less thing to worry about.

And, you know, going up 2-0 would be great. This team has what it takes to make that happen. They closed out Winnipeg when that team was desperate for the win. Dallas isn't desperate yet, start closing them out now.

Flames are up in a playoff series, and the thread already has 'Dube Does Dallas 2' to build on, and people just want to bitch about Hamonic and a couple 2nd round draft picks.

Here are a couple 2nd round draft picks to discuss: Dillon Dube, Rasmus Andersson

(someone will reply: this is why we shouldn't trade 2nds)

Fair point.

Hamonic was paid what he should have been as a four.

If he was a three pushing two it was a good contract. Hard to argue that was the case.

I predict EatBread is the Flame that the Stars have never heard of who steps up big tonight. Big night from the Backlund line. Which causes the Stars to shift their defensive strategies, leaving the top line more open, leading to a big third game from them. And the cycle continues.

Although I also feel like the Stars will be a much better team tonight. Not to say we can't beat them, but it won't be as "easy" as it was in game 1.

So far, Dube is the Flames frontrunner for Conn Smythe.

Does he continue to build, or does another homeless person take the lead?

Uh, you surely mean Cam Talbot is the Flames frontrunner for Conn Smythe, right?
