5v5 High danger chances were 9-4 in favour of the Flames

5v5 Scoring chances were 22-12 in favour of the Flames

Expected goals were 1.56 to 1.32 in favour of the Flames

Calgary had two issues: goaltending and execution. But if they play like that against Winnipeg, they stand a good chance of winning.

Not mad. Flames got better as the game went on. For the first game in 4 month it went as well as can be. Flames started slow, we're unlucky on the oilers first penalty which lead to a goal.

Lindy scoring again against the Oilers makes me happy. Onward and upward. Let's get ready for the Jets

Oilers gave up 37 shots...far superior?
The Oilers sat back in the 2nd period and coasted. They didn't need to play a full 60 minutes to win this one. That type of effort tonight won't get it done against the Jets just like it wasn't good enough against the Oilers. Not going to argue too much over a game that doesn't count but they will have to be a lot better in the opener.

Good thing Chicago has Kane. He can finish.

Those are just excuses for mistakes that top tier goalies don’t make. He didn’t make a single challenging save and let in two goals a better goalie would have had. Talbot also pooched the first goal with poor rebound control. It’s not being unfair to mediocre goalies to call out their mediocrity.

...I love Ritter, but we have made excuses for goalies for a decade now. Constant bargain bin shopping has resulted in bargain bin results.

Also at 5v5 the high danger chances were 9-4 for the Flames.

They gave up very little quality at 5v5.

Anyway, all in all, I thought the presentation on all the games today was great. I barely noticed the lack of fans. Just seemed like watching hockey, for the most part.
not really, the Dman was back...Rittich should have kept his stick on the ice and played the shot...let the Dman block the pass

Sportsnet uploads the oilers highlights on their yt page, ignores the Flames goal. Typical.

I think, tonight’s game notwithstanding, Rittich is actually a nice find by Treliving.

The guy has looked great in the early stages on a season in his early career.

We’ve heard whispers of injuries that he was battling through so I’m willing to give a young (for a goalie) guy like him a longer leash.

Before he fell off a cliff last season, which again coincided with the reported timeline of Rittich’s injury, he had some games in which he looked godly.

I agree in a sense however because they got lucky and found Rittich when they were scouting Prybl.

I really hope ward isn't married to the line combos. I feel like whoever is going between mangiapane/dube/Bennett should get the top spot on the backlund/tkatchuk line.

I also am realizing I have very little faith in our bottom 3 dmen (hanafin, forbert, gusstavson) don't make me very comfortable.

Rittich isn't going to start against the Jets so there's no point in sugar coating his performance as there's no controversy here. Talbot was better tonight and has been better in camp. He's the guy for better or worse.

How about all that tarping around the seats? What is that material? Such nice tight corners and edges . Must be some type of structure underneath. Very nice work there. Can’t stop thinking about it

It's not just goalies... If the team could actually get it out of their zone, things would look differently

... Yeeeeeah, can't really agree with you on that one. McDavid in by himself is often a goal regardless of who is in net, and anyone can be the victim of a crazy bounce. Neither of those goals require an excuse.

If we fix our coaching issues, first line and goaltending we'll be in good shape.

Yeah, Ritter is a totally solid back up goalie. Even has the overly loveable personality of a great back up. It’s a solid snag by Tree to find him. He needs to be playing behind a goalie that is legitimately a top tier goalie though. No matter how much we downplay goalies, if you don’t have someone who is consistently top-tier, then all you’re doing is hoping you catch lightning in a bottle like Chicago did with Niemi.

I think Rittich has a higher ceiling than Talbot... when Rittich is on his game he can steal games, problem is consistency. Talbot might have that advantage... I still think Rittich is the better goalie when it comes down to it, but I’m not sure how he will handle the added pressure.
