If the Flames beat the jets, they're out in the actual playoffs. They don't have the team to go deep, I'll take a 10% chance at first overall over a 1% chance at beating teams like the avs, blues or Vegas let alone whoever comes out of the east.
It's about time the Flames catch some luck.

Honestly out of the remaining 16 teams, the one id be okay getting the first overall pick would be Minnesota. (Obviously since Calgary is going to win the cup)

I mean the Rockies are apparently in downtown Edmonton. Who doesn’t want to play there?

In which case the Flames would count as one of the bottom 8.

Whoever wins the Cup will have zero respect from every other fanbase. A big part of winning is to shove it into your rivals faces but when winning the Cup loses even a little bit of value/validation, mindsets change.
No matter who wins, the feeling is going to be much different and less-deserved this year versus a normal year so I see zero issue in taking our chances at a first overall pick. Especially when it's statistically the most likely scenario

If hockey is canceled for the rest of the year, redo the lottery. Every team should have a chance to win the draft lottery if they can't win the cup.

It’s seldom any team has much more than a 12.5% chance of winning the cup. It’s tough when 16 teams are going for it. And this year, unless you are a top 4 team. It’s even tougher.

I disagree. Whatever team wins this year will be no less valid than the 1995 Devils or 2013 Blackhawks who only played 48 regular season games.

Those seasons didn’t have 24 team playoffs and a 4 month break in the middle of the season. This season will always have an asterisk next to it, mostly due to 80% of the league making the playoffs.

I agree that the feeling will be different, but the winner will have gone through 16 or even 24 teams to get there.
There will be much respect.

Exactly. 100%
On top of being even more difficult to win this year, the added fact that whoever wins won't enjoy it nearly as much or get nearly as much respect from other fanbases makes this a much easier thought process for me

Then don’t have a lottery and reward tanking. You can’t have it both ways.

Those seasons started late. Every team is going to say they would have got hot or something and maybe the playoffs and won the cup.
*This year is an anomaly.
