I hate putting labels on this so black and white, and part of the overall problem of the thinking of guys like Leipscic.
People grow and mature at different stages, and different life experiences.
Leipsic is behind on his own emotional maturity, and paid the price by losing his job and hurting his reputation. I've seen it in other non-hockey professional fields. Some people use the opportunity to grow, mature, and get better. I see it as a wake up call, and we will see if he is capable of more.
But if we label everyone a "####ty human being" because they have made awful comments at some point in their life, then we need to throw a lot of people into the pile, including many people here who I consider to be decent people.
Ultimately, I see his comments stemming from someone that has not learned to value people beyond appearance, and social status. If that's how he analyzes things, he probably has some inner self resentment going on too.... he needs to learn to value himself properly before he has any right to value others in that way. Until then, he aint going to be popular in any locker rooms.

Man.. just like Bill Peters. Both deserve it imo.
However, its crazy how fast things can turn your entire life upside down. A week ago, Leipsic was an NHL player on a team who could have made a deep playoff run. Instead, one week later, he is out of the league.
Always think before you speak.

That's fair, maybe I should say "currently" a ####ty human being. It's up to him to remove that label from his name and prove that he's better than that.

Re-iterates a much needed message to players, staff and fans. Things like this will not be tolerated. Glad it was such a quick decision by the Caps.

Good riddance.
Should also be noted his brother has been booted from the U of M team, Jackson Keane is being investigated by UND, and two of the other fellows have apparently been let go from their jobs.

A 4th liner on his 5th team in 6 years or something like that? Easy decision. Would have been interesting if it was a star player though.

Oh yeah. How NHL handles someone associated with the brand, will be interesting.

I am sure every team is relieved that the player who is going to be the example is a replacement level player and not a star. That would have been a harder decision for sure.

I'm glad he got outed and will be out of the league. But where's the uproar for the person who supposedly hacked this? Is it not a crime to hack someones private messages and post them for the world to see? Where is the backlash for that individual, and will anyone attempt to find that person and punish them?

Are there other trashy people on earth? Of course. Are those people paid millions to play a child's game and act as role models to millions? No.
And the idea he was "hacked" is absurd excuse peddled by technically unsophisticated. What probably happened is one of these guys left their phone unlocked and their girlfriend found out what he and his "Bros" were saying all the time.
In that sense it's not a "hacker" but a "leaker", and usually leaks are done to prove wrongdoing, and generally have public sympathy. Sometimes they're even called "whistle blowers" and even have protection.

I still don't really like leaking private conversations, but defending this guy isn't the case to prove the point.
I am sure teams must have social media policies that even cover private messages. I worked for companies which did and weren't in the public eye as much as an NHL team.

I wonder how many players out there are furiously scrubbing away their inboxes and deleting their chat logs. Hopefully not too many, but you know there are some.
It's interesting because I've heard NFL players talk about "protecting the shield" -- i.e. protecting the league's image. For the most part hockey players are probably pretty clean, but that doesn't mean there aren't exceptions. Not surprised to see a zero tolerance approach.

He sounds like a despicable person. Maybe suffering the consequences of his actions will help him grow up.

The thing is, other people have a copy as well (assuming they weren't chatting with themselves). There could be as many people storing those chats for future use.
It's a perfect extortion and blackmail tool, and a good example of why we shouldn't celebrate even if the person effected is deserving of his punishment.

I’m sure they’ve asked their “buddies” to delete their copies as well (if I was an agent that’s what I’d me telling my client anyways). Even if there is no intent to extort the player, who knows if they might get “hacked” later.
If it’s something that happened several years ago that might be one thing, but these messages were fairly recent I believe?

haven't all players received their full pay for the regular season by now? Not much implication of terminating his contract now

Well, he won't be playing again this year if the season resumes, and he won't be getting a qualifying offer. Two pretty big deals if he wants to continue his career in the NHL.

Will still have to see if the NHL will give him any supplemental discipline. They could still fine or suspend him.
Voynov was suspended by the NHL for a season (arbitrator reduced it to half a season) even after the Kings terminated his contract.
