Sort of on topic, but what really bugged me about this article (originally this was posted on Sportsnet.ca) was that it had the typical Francis fear mongering sprinkled in. Suggesting Talbot was heading back to Ontario and moving out of his Calgary rental because he didn't think hockey was coming back.

"In the midst of trying to entertain their three-year-old twins, Cam Talbot and his wife, Kelly, have been packing up their Calgary rental home.

Their plan is to head back to Ontario in the next few weeks, which says plenty about how doubtful they are about the possibility the NHL can shoehorn in a conclusion to this season."

Or, and hear me out Francis, family is there and where he typically trains is there etc. Also, I don't believe he asks Talbot once about it.

I'm probably reaching, but its Francis so I'm automatically triggered.

I don't think Talbot's a starter. He's fine as a backup. He reminds me too much of Hiller when he's done on his knees and he's slow going across the crease. I wish the Flames would play more of a consistent game with both goalies. A lot of time, it seems like Rittich is playing the tough games and hung out to dry whereas Talbot plays the sheltered minutes. Also, a lot of people on this board feels Rittich seems to not be able to hang on down the stretch - but you have to know that if the D aren't doing their job game-in/game-out and he's left there to try and get the job done, any goalie's gonna get hurt in that process. Rittich's the number one goalie for the Flames. I think if Talbot is gonna take over, Tre will be looking for another starter very soon after.

Markstrom's issue when he was first traded to Vancouver was consistent efforts. Then about three seasons ago, he had this bad habit of letting in the first shot or one of the first few (the exact same thing Demko is going through now, though at a younger age). Then, around December 2018, after a few months with Ian Clark, something just clicked. Since then, he has been the best and most consistent player on the Canucks. I think you are being optimistic about him actually getting to UFA. By all recent reports, they're not that far apart and Swede's are notorious for not jumping teams, especially Swedes in Vancouver. A better choice for the Flames would be finding a goalie coach like Ian Clark because not only does he get the most out of your current guys, he lays the groundwork for years (see Columbus).
Why would the Flames hire Ian Clark when they have Jordan Sigalet? One has to wonder when the day will come when the GM looks at his roster which has over the years been blessed with a better than average blue line group and produced below NHL average goaltending and finally single out coaching as a possible issue. I realize Treliving hasn't brought in an elite goaltender since becoming GM but there's not really much of a trend of goaltenders becoming better when they join the Flames. There's simply been no indication that the organization has got the most out of their goaltending talent over the years.

Everybody packed up and went to their off season homes. Just typical shill reporting by Francis, nothing to see there.

I think the better plan to bringing in an elite goalie is bringing in an elite goalie coach, and I think that's the better plan across the board. The Canucks have always been very good at making sure they have great teachers, while also making sure those teachers are also spending time at the AHL and ECHL level with their younger goalies.

The Flames have had some very talented young goalies over the years who have never managed to make it at the NHL level and I think you have to look at the coaching level when that is happening consistently.
