His production is off, but league wide in other key stats ...

31st in CF% (1st)
48th in Shot splits (2)
25th in xGF% (1)
49th in SCF% (2nd)
56th in HDCF% (2nd)

And even production ... he's still generating

ixG/60 36th
iSCF/60 22nd
iShot/60 18th
iHDCF/60 59th

Really the only difference is the puck isn't going in this year. The guy is still an elite top pairing defenseman by almost any measure.
Man its time I learned what all these metrics are.

We'll see Talbot in the back-to-back on the weekend.

Talbot has poor career numbers against Columbus but does well against Arizona.

Start Rittich the 1st game back.

As for this weekend? Toss up.

Rittich has been absolutely terrible at home the past 2.5 months. Can't pee away points against a team like Columbus.

Why is this goaltending matchup interesting? At least say something on way or the other. What a terrible tweet. No wonder I can't listen to the FAN anymore. Steinberg just loves to put the fence post right between his cheeks.

Look, I'm always nervous when a guy comes back, but that's just me. Usually it's just fine.
Same here. One thing is certain though - I'd be extra cautious with Giordano at this point and give him a little extra time. The Flames have almost no chance of making the playoffs without out him. If they somehow do, they certainly aren't going on a deep run.

It just is not really an interesting matchup, it is just two goalies starting. I guess the interesting part is if Rinne is no longer that starter?

No problem with the tweet, other than prefacing it with "it's interesting". Is it interesting because both goalies have started the prior 2? Is it interesting because the Preds goalies workload has been 50/50 all year, but Saros is getting a 3rd straight nod?

No reason it can't happen in regulation. F Nashville, no points for them!

49th in SCF% (2nd) - A step up from CF%, these are shot attempts inside home plate. His % for is 49th for dmen.

56th in HDCF% (2nd) - This is the number above, but paired down to high danger based on how the event takes place. A pass into the home plate, deflection or rebound. He's 56th for dmen in these stats while on the ice.

These aren't "on ice", they are individual.

ixG/60 36th - Given where Giordano has shot the puck he's ranked 36th the # of goals he would be expected to score per 60 minutes of five on five play.

iSCF/60 22nd - Individual shot attempts in 60 minutes. He's ranked 22nd.
iShot/60 18th - Individual home plate shot attempts per 60 minutes. He's ranked 18th.

iHDCF/60 59th - Individual home plate shots where he gets a rebound, tips a puck or receives a pass into the home plate area. He's 59th.

^^ xGoals aren't just where the shot was taken, but can also be weighted by

- whether a shot was taken on the rush
- whether a shot was taken immediately after a rebound
- whether a shot was taken on the powerplay or ES

Absolutely ...

expected result of each type of shot, defined as just a shot attempt, a scoring chance attempt, and a high danger chance. All added up.

The last point is out as I only included five on five results.

Going to the game...4 rows from ice level at blue line where Flames attack twice. Such a great venue, as their game presentation and fan enthusiasm is unreal.
GFG!
