I honestly think the results are more of a bounce thing than anything between the two of late.

Rittich was beat and pulled against Chicago after having three of four go in from unchecked forwards in the center of home plate.

Meanwhile Talbot beats the Ducks with three pucks going off the shaft of his stick and wide.

Way over cooked party line.

He struggled against Edmonton at home for sure. Tight loss to LA, then back to back road games where he posted .926 and .944

.875 in LA but he kept the Flames in it in the first, and was completely abandoned in the second.

Was left to the wolves against Chicago.

He's fine.

Let's hope Bennet keeps it up at centre tonight. If he can keep it going at a consistent 3rd line centre role this team would benefit.

Predicting the Flames continue their scoring ways and finish with 6 goals tonight.

I don’t care how many the Bruins get.

GFG!

Rittich has not won a game on home ice since 12 December. Clearly there is more going on than can be dismissed by bounces and defensive lapses.

I wasn't speaking to the entire body of work ...

But lately he's been fine. Solid in Vancouver and San Jose, good in Los Angeles and abandoned against Chicago.

0.892 and 3.42 in 11 games since Jan 1.

0.920 and 2.82 for Talbot in 10 games in the same time.

Since I went into game by game specifics, quoting the stats isn't all that helpful, but thanks!

My whole point was Talbot was making saves without seeing the puck or getting fortunate too often for my liking. Rittich has struggled but has also tended twine for some of the Flame's worst defensive efforts of late.

Yeah, to me that still looks like he has been fine on the road, and is struggling at the Saddledome.

The difficulty in evaluating the Chicago game is that while the Flames dropped the ball defensively it is also impossible to see that Rittich was in a position to win last Saturday night. There has been a pretty well-worn pattern of poor performances on home ice that was not corrected against Chicago.

Certainly can't argue with the home results of late. They stink.

Couple of things I noticed when drilling down on both goaltenders since January 1st.

1 - they have identical low danger save percentage five on five ... .981. Both have been equal when it comes to their "stinker" rate.
2 - Rittich has been facing on average one additional high danger chance than Talbot per 60 minutes of work five on five. 8.5 per game to 7.5 per game.

That's starting to dig into what I'm seeing ... the team has played better for Talbot, and Rittich has seen a slip in stopping the tough ones, not the easy.

Probably at least in part because Talbot got some games after ones where the team really let Rittich down and embarrassed themselves. It's not that they don't like Rittich or have less confidence - it's that they were trying to atone.
