Honestly if it were me, if I were to go down with a heart attack, an event with first responders and an ambulance is the best place for that to happen.
Hope for a full recovery.

Yes, that was on Nov. 21, 2005. Rich Peverly of the Dallas Stars also collapsed on the bench nearly 6 years ago on March 10, 2014. Peverly had to retire as well.

Exactly....can't really think of a better situation for it to happen in.
If this was a beer league story the outcome would have been much worse.

Not always. The posting of this story is actually a year ago to the day.

I was watching this game when it happened. Game goes to commercial break and when it comes back you see everyone standing by the bench and stretcher out and stuff. I was like OMG what happened. I rewound it to see if anything happened during the play but didn’t see anything. Glad to hear he is doing ok now at least.

Agreed. In the process of that becoming the case.

Slightly off topic I suppose since it isn’t directly about Jaybo.
This is pretty neat - I ran across it by searching to confirm if a AED can reset a tachycardia. It is a short article, with video that shows what a AED does.
Probably should mark it NSFW as it shows a heart being shocked, stopping, and the natural pacemaker returning it to a normal rhythm

Maybe not construction codes but I believe AED’s are required in many types of buildings. No doubt it varies by jurisdiction.

There are no requirements to have them in Canada.
There are design guidelines for cities that support installing them, and lots of places have set internal requirements, but they are not a legal requirement.

No way, really? in the US every state has different regulations regarding placement of AED's in public places. Schools, nursing homes, swimming pools, public gathering places etc. And Good Samaritan legal protection for their use.
Like I said it varies by jurisdiction, which means not just states but counties, cities, school districts etc.

Glad that he is seems to be doing OK.
I hope they get to the bottom of what caused it. It has to be scary to not know why something like that happens to you. It would be hard to shake that feeling that it could happen again at any time.

On the bright side: should he be forced into retirement by this, he retires a two-time NHL All-star, with a gold medal in the Olympics, two gold medals in the World Cup of Hockey, two gold medals in the Ice Hockey World Championships, a top-10 NHL iron man streak, and a Stanley Cup ring. That's about as complete a career in professional hockey as anyone can ask for.

Maybe it's just Ontario, but working on a fire-route for our building I was under the impression that we had to have AEDs on each floor due to x-amount of people in the building.
Maybe just policy? But I wasn't working with a 'voluntarily install things that cost money' kinda guy...

Nope, so far as I can find, it's still "Not required in Canada" yet. It's considered best practice to have at least one around, but 'you' are not required to, yet.

Not required here either. That’s why you see charities like the Mikey Network, where they provide AEDs to public spaces. Because the government is still juggling that one.
Could also be something your insurance company said they want.
