LOL, Stanley Cup? No. A win for me is to finish ahead of the Oilers, it's been that way for 20 years.

Not a chance. I think they have a legit shot at not making the playoffs. And if they do will get creamed just like last year. I just don't think this team has that gear that you need to compete in tough games. That needs to be brought in and then taught to whoever remains.

Well hopefully there isn’t a roster freeze during this break.

How dare you question the strategy of the sanctified Flames brain trust

Option 3, 1 & 2.

Won’t happen though. Goal of the team is to be good enough to “slip into the playoffs”. Because if you get in “anything can happen”. I’d rather we traded some UFAs and reloaded to be a championship team. That would probably involve also moving a couple of veteran players and getting younger again. Add a coach on top and a fresh 3 year clock.

I’ll cheer for the flames till the end. But I do not think they are a contender or have a legit shot to win the cup. Even with a top 6 addition whom is being mentioned(Toffoli etc), they are a mid tier bubble playoff team. Not much separating the flames with the oilers, canucks or coyotes. Each team has some advantages and disadvantages when compared to each other. They are all the same in my opinion with regards to making the playoffs, winning a series, let alone getting the cup(none of these teams have a chance)

I agree.

And if neither Mangiapane nor Backlund are working in the top-6, does it hurt to swap them out for a Lucic, Ryan, Bennett or Dube?

Is Ward afraid the top 2 lines will get worse with a change? Can it get any worse?

Nothing this years team has done makes me think there is a chance they could go deep. Having said that last years team seemed poised to go deep. I do think this team will make the playoffs and if they are hot in their last 10 games leading up to the playoffs who knows they could go on a run?

They need to add a top 6 forward

Calgary is the only one of the 16 teams currently in a playoff spot in the NHL with a negative goal differential.

And it’s not even close at -17.

Take away that 5-0 shoot out record, which tends to be pretty random from year to year, and meaningless in the playoffs, and they are out on the street.

The Flames their last 3 games (against teams, that again, only had 2 wins in their last 22 games combined): 3 goals

Alex Ovechkin in his last 3 games: 8 goals

I don’t mind losing games in general as long as you don’t lose stupid, and today they lost stupid.

The worst part is usually the Flames are good until the all star break then awful afterwards. I don’t see how they could actully play any worse after, they’ve been awful for a while, but the goalies have been bailing them out.

It all comes down to this off season
Lack of patience mid season could do more damage

We had a coach in Peters that was demanding on his players and not afraid to mix things up based on who was performing on any giving night and the team was terrible with him for the first part of the year.

Now we have a coach in Ward that seems to be getting points and has the team in a much better position in the standings despite the fact that the team hasn't looked great overall.

These players dont need another new coach, they need to find some pride and play hard on a consistent basis.

The team just doesn’t have enough talent in the top 6 to truly contend for the Cup. There isn’t a single game-breaker on the Flames. They’re good enough to make the playoffs, but they won’t make any noise if they do.

It’s actually Scorp’s fault for taking over the GDT during a one-game win streak...

I dont know. It like not treating a festering wound IMO, if it goes unchecked it's going to affect the entire body. This team needs an injection of change.

Remember when the Flames got absolutely hammered in the playoffs last year and scored more than 2 goals in just 1 of 5 games, and then they made zero major changes to that group and that same group can't score this year at all and the year before last they couldn't score, and they've needed better top 6 right wingers for 3 seasons now but haven't gotten any?

I remember this vaguely.
