More playoff rounds won in the last 4 years than the Flames in the last 30.
Clearly trash tier.

He isn't a player on waivers guys the Flames can just pick the guy up. Right now he gets paid 2.5M to do nothing and wait for the perfect opportunity.

I would fully support the Flames hiring Laviolette. I wonder how much faith the ownership would put in Treliving to lay down a lot of cash on another coach though, even if it would be tough to find a much name for his third coaching hire.
If the owners aren't sure about Treliving, I think we'll see Ward ride it out. If the Flames make a big pitch at Laviolette, I guess it also indicates the owners have confidence left in Treliving.

Trotz makes $4M - a bargain. Quenneville makes $5.25 - current tops in the NHL. McLellan, Julien and Vigneault make $5M. That's the Laviolette range, I guess. I think the Flames could see their way to paying that.
ETA: I'm not sure how taxes play into a coach's salary. And Laviolette's an American FWIW.

It really wouldn’t be dumping Ward either. They had no choice with Peters forcing their hand. Just because your boss gets fired/resigns does not mean the job is automatically yours.
I agree, go hard for Laveolette, but I can see him taking the rest of the year off and waiting for a bidding war.

We don't even know if he will want to coach in Canada.

Despite obvious (and pricey), proven options being available, the Flames choose to hire cheap, unproven coaches.
Don't hold your breath for a Laviolette hire. The owners are not willing to spend an extra couple million to get a top tier coach. Gotta save those couple million for an overpaid 4th liner.

Not holding any breath, but the Flames could really improve their team with one guy and make the hire.
I don't think Treliving woulde even reach out though. He just goes with the guys he wants, not the best.

Was anyone else surprised by how much Peters made as the Flames' coach?

For a guy who had zero playoff wins, for sure I was.

I like Ward but ya the Flames have to do this, don't they? Or at least try.

Ya Flames should be all over this if he is interested. Nothing against Ward, but when elite coaches pop up you make the move.

Count me among the few who want to keep Ward and give him a shot. He’s earned it. And I’ve never understood the NHL coaching carousel where the same 35 coaches rotate throughout the league. Who knows, maybe Ward becomes the next Laviolette?

Ward hasn't earned anything though. He was defaulted into the HC job.
Results matter, so you need to get the coaches who actually have them. Waiting for Ward to become Laviolette isn't worth it.

He’s been either an assistant or associate coach in the NHL for 13 seasons. I’d say he’s earned a shot at the Helm. And how is a coach supposed to get results if they’re never given an opportunity?

Maybe, but how much of our players primes do you want to burn figuring that out?

This could describe Gulutzan though. If you want the mystery box, go for it. I want the elite coach.
