Ya I get what you are saying. I am starting to think he could be better suited to be a trade chip rather than our future 1-2 Dman.

He's totally checked out.
Off ice is likely the issue. To be amongst the best you have to be in peak physical form, or you'll start to break down as you get to your mid-20's/30's. Nutrition, alcohol and other extra curricular uses need to be controlled or eliminated or the body will just break down more and more, and there will be no way to stay in the top group of forwards. This is a critical time for Gaudreau where he has to decide if he wants to be serious and fight to be a top 10 forward or slink off into the 20-50 range.

He'll still be miles ahead of the average person, but he should fighting to be the best in the league, and that will get harder and harder as he gets older if he isn't 100% committed.

This. I almost feel Hamonic is getting crucified for Hanifins deficiencies. Outside of great skating he's pretty average. I'd be open to moving him while his value is high when Valimaki is ready.

Give him an extended run with Rasmus, and see where you are at. Hamonic’s gap control is awful, and continuously puts stress on that pairing. Hanafin has to learn the simple play is ok, but his toolbox is pretty exceptional at his age.

I am not claiming anything and this is completely speculative.. but with Gaudreau's body language and disappearance on the ice, I wonder if he is dealing with some mental health issues... Just doesn't seem like himself.

I think Ward is not good at game management and player management. There are still too many players doesn't play or know their roles. Bennett, Janko, Frolik, Dube, Backlund and may be Johnny too.

Bottom line for me is that David Rittich did not show up to play tonight and it cost the team the game.

Overall I actually thought it was extremely boring. The score flattered Vancouver.

Extra odd to bring this up on the day of the Flames second game after Christmas.

Rittich staring down the defense like he did first goal was completely pathetic.
And the one he let in through the legs was the worst goal against this team a few years.

Changed the game entirely, as there's not a huge margin between teams in the league anymore, and pathetic gift wrapped goals like that change the game and the way players play from that point on.

What a let down of a game after blowing out the no good just 2 days ago on the road.

Bump Backlund to #3C and move Dube up to RW with #13 and #23. Move Ryan to #4C and never play Jankowski ever again.

Embarrassed that Kipper had to watch that live tonight.

Yes, and Harmonic's decision is not good when pressured. I think he will be traded soon.

I don't think Rittich had anything to do with the PPs. Tkachuk went full meat-head and then got a meat-head call because of who he is. The goals he let in were bad though.

I like seeing you when the Canucks win too, so that's just swell!

Outside fan looking in, when the Canucks were apparently shopping the 2018 7th pick, one of the names that kept getting attached to it was Noah Hanafin. Ray Ferraro is the one who convinced me that was a bad idea and to hope the Canucks didn't do it by saying that Hanafin was now (then) what he was always going to be. Very reliable at young age, but was never going to be much more. Anyone the Canucks could draft at 7 would probably have a much higher upside. That the Canucks ended up getting Hughes really made that a very true statement.

The Flames have the best winning % in the entire league since he took over

It was definitely brutal but I think you are forgetting the junk that was allowed to go in by Mike Smith last year. Very comparable but on numerous occasions.

At best? Flames are likely a top 3 pacific team but okay

I agree I think a new partner ASAP would be a wise decision especially because it looks like Hamonic is not a long term piece of this franchise.

re: staring down the defense. Did he really do this? I didn’t see it.

Dube earned a look on the top line tonight?

Oh, and I suggested moving Backlund to a center spot between Gaudreau and Monahan earlier this year.

This was wrong. Just let Lindholm play on that line as the center. The Flames top line was very.... Ehhhhhhh
