When we were in our losing streak this season I had come around on even the slight chance of getting lafreniere. He would be an incredible talent to build around in the coming years

Hopefully team USA gives Wolf the next start and have him challenge Knight for that starting spot. Pretty rough first game for Knight even if it was vs Canada. You would expect better from a first round goalie.
While Canada gets challenged in every tournament, it’s always by a different country it seems.
Canada is still the dominant country in hockey and it’s not particularly close.
Suggesting that the US has overtaken Canada is pretty much ignoring reality. Today this assertion was mostly based on a 2-0 US first period lead.

Agreed that the US isn't as good as Canada. Full stop.
But I would probably stop short of calling Canada dominant at the highest level. I'd say we're definitely the team to beat, but Canada doesn't just get challenged. Canada can be beat by a number of countries.
When I think of domination, I think of a team like the US women's soccer team.

Canada has been more dominating than the US women’s soccer team. Have won 3 of the last 4 Olympic golds when NHL players can play. US women’s team didn’t win the 2011, 2007, or 2003 women’s World Cup. They have won the last 2 but did not win the 3 World Cups before that so they do lose.
There was a very high chance that Canada could’ve been looking at 4 of the last 5 Olympic golds if they would’ve sent NHL players. Pretty damn dominating

Well we are talking about the World Juniors.
The US women's soccer team won the last 2 World Cups, runner up in the one before that and have never been worse than third. In 6 Olympics they have 4 golds, a silver and a 5th.
At the World Juniors, Canada has 2 golds, 3 silvers and a bronze in the last 11 tournaments.
If you want to look at the Olynpics, there were 5 Olympics starting in 1998 when pros were able to participate. Canada has 3 golds, a 4th and a 7th.
Canada is clearly the best at hockey but it seems the women's soccer team is more dominant. But its subjective for sure.
