And.... no.

One of the reasons is that so few teams have cap space. Who wants to stuff Czarnik on their roster while he gets back into game shape?

Now the question is whether he comes back up. At least no one saying he was sent down to work on the PK like with Kylington.

Calgary Flames @NHLFlames

#Flames Roster Update: Austin Czarnik has cleared waivers and has been assigned to the @AHLHeat. In addition, Zac Rinaldo has been recalled from Stockton.

Funny - identical production stats (Rinaldo has 2 fewer games). They also share the speed and size attributes. But given Rinaldo's toughness and salary, and given the presence of Dube and Mangiapane up the lineup, I don't see why Rinaldo doesn't actually have the edge over Czarnik for an NHL job.

The team seems to win with Rinaldo in the lineup. His abilities are very very limited, but those abilities seem to spark the Flames. Rinaldo brings unrelenting (even when it's not appropriate) energy. The Flames are a mentally fragile team that has a tendency to collapse and lose energy.

For better or worse, with the current flat level of play and all the first round exits, I see the Flames inserting more goons into the lineup.

What is your definition of “goon”.
The play I have seen this year from Rinaldo does not fit what I think of in regard to that term.

Perhaps that's because they have an absurd 15.79% on-ice shooting percentage when he's on the ice. He's basically tracking to be Mario Lemieux 2.0 with that amount of impact.

Rinaldo is more of a pest that will light you up if given the chance. He will fight anyone if it comes to that, but it doesn't ever seem to be what he is going for although the way he plays will provoke other players. I personally wouldn't call him a goon.

Great to hear he clears. He's a decent skilled depth option.

Rinaldo has more games suspended than goals. He's a goon in every sense of the word. The guy is constantly skirting the line between illegal play in the name of getting a big hit. He has zero regard for the safety of other players on the ice.

Have you watched him this year?
I have not seen that from him in games played this year at all, and am wondering if I’ve missed it.
What I’ve seen this year is an energy player who is really tough to play against, and mixes in the odd point.

Incorrect. A goon is a player that can only fight. Not sure there are any goons left in the NHL.

Rinaldo is a grinder or energy player who crosses the line sometimes.

How bout Ross Johnston of the Islanders? Or Micheal Haley of the Rangers? Do those guys qualify as a goon in your books?

They do in mine.

Phew. Shades of Byron, but valuable depth if we need it this year

Will be interesting to see what he gets done while in the A
