Rittich isn't starting...does not automatically mean he will not play. Hopefully he gets the night off because Talbot and the team both play awesome.

Unlike Rittich, Talbot has yet to allow a goal v. the Kings this season.

And while they aren't necessarily his fault, I don't think Valimaki's injuries have done his placement on the depth chart any favours. Kylington is already at over triple Valimaki's games played and I think he's clearly usurped him as the #6 when everyone is healthy.
|
I don’t think so at all. As soon as Valimaki is healthy and conditioned, Kylington will be in the A.

Unlike Talbot, Rittich has actually played well this year and allowed his team to win some games.

Talbot has been fine. He's played mostly in the 2nd back-to-back games.

Yeah but Rittich is the Flames MVP by a long shot.
My point is that the Flames have played the Kings poorly this year.
I hope they play better tonight.

Is Rittich really the MVP by a long shot?
I heard that Lindholm's goal total as a percentage of team scoring is 4th in the league.
Rittich has played a lot of games, but a 91.4% is maybe just a tad above the league average for a starter. To put it into perspective, Darcy Kuemper has a 93.7% in just 4 fewer games. Rittich's 91.4% is 22nd in the league for goalies who have played 10+ games.
Talbot hasn't won games yet, but I don't think he has been bad.
He should probably get a few more chances in the coming games. Especially if it's against teams that Rittich hasn't been able to win against.

One thing Rittich's save percentage doesn't show is that the team has hung him out to dry a lot this season. If another goaltender has faced more breakaways and odd man rushes I would be very surprised. I haven't seen a Flames team play this poorly defensively since the Hartley days.

Yeah but Flames fans have been saying this since 2005 or so (Kipper was amazing, yet only had a 91.2% for his career).
I am skeptical that the Flames' defense has been that horrible the entire time - always making goalie save percentages lower than what they should be. In my opinion, Brodie has made fewer major mistakes this year than last year. That goes for Rasmus Andersson as well.
I also watch all the Predator games, and I see no major difference in the number of prime scoring opportunities (with that said, Rinne is struggling so it's a moot point).

It’s a tough call, but I think if he wins tonight I would play him in Denver.

His team hung him out to dry after last year's break, yet everyone thought Smith was so much better. Yeah I guess he had a slight injury, but the team played like crap from that break until just recently this season.

He probably understands that this can be a real disadvantage for other teams. Pretty sure he will be in on the line blender!
