Geoff Ward can't coach a PP. I would not want him as our coach. I'd sooner have Huska or Gelinas with the interim title for the remainder of the year.

...the idea of watching Darryl give post-game pressers again also makes me smile.

I don't care who is brought in, but more about the process of who is brought in. I'd say multiple people should be interviewed, and it shouldn't be all about hockey, but how they motivate players and get the best out of them without being ######s. Treliving and company have to do their homework on each candidate, as this now sets a different standard going forward for pro sports. It's out in the open of this happening now, and there's no excuse going forward for teams to say, "I didn't know the guy was like this". Don't only focus on the results, and the end justifying the means, know what the coaches character is like. I'm personally really passionate about how one persons actions affect a group, and that group dynamic, and when you hear how sports plays out, it's sociopathic in nature and anyone hired going forward shouldn't be starting today for any organization. Call it corporate social responsibility.

If/when Peters is no longer the coach, whomever they want to be his replacement they must speak to every single one of his former players and all of his previous coworkers about everything he's ever done in his past.

I have little doubt they'd go on a run over the remainder of the year with Darryl. He's really the perfect kickstarter in a tough year. It's his shelf life beyond a year or two that would be in question.

He sounded interested when the media spoke to him at an event here around the time they hired Peters.

Default Who should be the next coach of the flames?

Sutter seems like a bit of a long shot to me. The man won his cups and put in his time, and seems comfortable moving on to the next chapter of his life.

Promoting Ward might not be the worst idea in the world. I have little faith he’ll be able to turn things around, but with how much parity there is in the league these days how much can we really expect a coaching change alone to turn this ship around into a contender?

Let him sink or swim, and if he sinks then we can go into the draft finally having a chance to pick up an honest to god franchise center. Trying to salvage a broken season in December is how you drag yourself back into the shadow realm of drafting 15th overall, and if you’re lucky you’re at best serving as some other team’s road bump to reaching the second round.

Way to exaggerate a point to make it seem ridiculous. You have psychiatrists picking on little nuances at the draft combine interviews, and you have psychiatrists working with players on the side, but why don't teams put more stock into coaches and psychologically how loudmouths and those giving others a hard time are likely gigantic pieces of crap? When you hire good people who have a track record of actually doing well, those should be the ones fostering a good team environment. Not just short term guys who kick and scream to get the most from their players.

Fire them all. Then:
Jarome Iginla: Head Coach
Theo Fleury: A coach works with offense and PP
Robyn Regehr: A coach works with defense and PK
Mikka Kiprusoff: Goalie coach

Ok, Gelly can stay too.

Well, it seems like there's a huge storm brewing of former players coming out with incidents they had with previous coaches etc. What if shortly after you hire Peters' replacement, some really significant past incidents come to light about that person too?

I say we just put a bunch of candidates in a room (including Ward, Huska and Gelinas), give them all harpoons, and let them battle to the death. The winner takes the coaching position and gets some discounted passes to Lake Louise. The losers are fed as Soylent Green to the Edmonton Oilers next time they're in town.

I think it's pretty simple actually. At the top you don't put Presidents in charge who "win at all costs".

Then each team publicly announce what hiring practices you put in place before hiring the given coach. What types of people did you consult? Did you call random former players (1st liners and 4th) to get their take on their style? There are ways to game around this by just confirming your own biases and calling people who will confirm what you think, but there's gotta be an honest assessment of people. When you hear now from players speaking out about Babcock and if it comes to it, Peters, and they come out in droves, it makes you wonder how many others knew about it, but the people in upper management turned a blind eye based on results. It happens in large corporations too, but this now has come to the forefront in hockey this week. Those above should be to blame too if many come forward as in the Babcock situation, as they essentially hired the guy by turning that blind eye. Again, ends justify the means.
