He shouldnt be earning a penny more than Brayden Point who is better and put up more points in less games. Hard to understand why he's getting a whole half a mill more? Did Point cut Tampa a deal because they're so good or because of the tax situation? I'm a tad miffed about that and the fact it's only a 3 year bridge.

Overall it's ok for me.

This part is key to me. Tre can wait until another team is down a dman to get a return that is in line with what he is looking for. No need to trade Frolik or Janko and allows the team to maintain depth and wait to upgrade.

Good thing with Tkachuk being RFA after the deal the Flames can trade him and get value for him after this deal expires

Don't care if its a slight overpay whatsoever, don't care what B.Point is making. Just happy to have our future captain back and ready to drive the league crazy wearing those beautiful Flames silks for at least 3 more years!

So, what are we thinking lines? If we use yesterdays players, who does Tkachuk take out and where does he go?

Best deal under the circumstances.

Cap vs Salary Demand didn’t work out, so this was the only way out.

I don’t see this as a tax thing. This is what it took to get the deal done now and Treliving probably gave in as opposed to grinding another $250k off the aav
I think when Friedman (or was it MacKenzie) specifically references taxes as a factor, they are getting that from an insider. And thus I think it was indeed a factor. Take home pay is a big deal.

He can be out in 4 years. I re-iterate: Worst case scenario with this contract.

And good for him if he does...

This really solidifies our window as right now and if he wants to leave after 4 years despite the new US tv deal going into effect in his 4th year where he can renegotiate then so be it.

I personally think we are buying the best years of his career at an absolute great deal here and happy to pay this.

Gotta be one of Czar, Mangi or Dube fighting for last spot. I assume the two vets have the upper hand here...

$250K not $500K more.

Tkachuk was never going to sign something fans would like, but at least Tre stood his ground enough not to go full dubas on this.

Don't love the deal as I was hoping they could sign something long-term. Also think the AAV is too high for a 3 year bridge contract.

If Brodie and Frolik are the reason you sign this contract, you probably shouldn't be a GM.

The fact that Tkachuk makes more than Point is pretty embarrassing. And it's pretty obvious that Point's contract directly affected the timing of this contract.

The contract itself isn't the worst. I like it more than the Marner and Matthews deals. A bridge deal for Tkachuk kind of makes sense, because he only has one highly offensive season under his belt thus far. And at least he's still an RFA at the end, even if the QO will have to be high.

3 year window. Here we go. Bridge makes sense to keep the cap hit reasonable.

I am excite!

I had it in my brain that Point's cap hit was 6.5 for some reason. Even still, I think the aav is too high for a bridge deal. I'm happy he's back but now I have a tiny sour taste in my mouth against the kid.

Actually, Point still earns more net with his contract according to Seravelli.

CAD vs US spending doesn’t matter to guys making this much money. Besides, anything expensive is priced higher in Canada to account for currency difference

Fans piping up on the Point/Tkachuk salary difference aren’t paying attention or are ignoring available information by choice.
