He was Mike Smith bad last year which is concerning. Hopefully he can shake off the long term effects of playing for the Oilers as his confidence was shot last season.

I bet he signs a one-year deal with the intent to reclaim a starters role and a long term contract in 2020. I don’t think he will get that chance in Philadelphia behind goalie phenom Carter Hart.

Depends which Talbot we get. Last year's Talbot = ouch, that's going to suck.
The year he stood on his head the whole season and was most of the reason (+McDavid) of why the Oilers made it to the playoffs and won a round = hells yes.
If we can get the former Talbot with confidence making saves all day every day behind THAT terrible defense....yes please.

I recall Treliving was in conversations to trade for Talbot out of NY originally as well, so there's history to support this too.
I'm for it overall. Talbot is likely looking at a "prove it" contract now, whereas Mrazek is likely going to get a longer term and bigger cap hit. Though I'd be on board for a Mrazek/Rittich Czech duo as well, but the financial logistics may not work as mentioned.

Worst case scenario is Gillies makes NHL money in Stockton. The Flames did that with Lazar, who costed more.

It'd be a gamble for sure but I'm not surprised.
Flames had interest before he went to the clown show and he was a good goalie back then.
If he comes to CGY and rebounds it'll be oh so sweet.
I don't mind it. He and Rittich can form a 1A 1B tandem. Plus after a couple down seasons he likely won't be too expensive.

I understand that there aren't a lot of free agent options out there. Hoping for Mrazek, but he won't come cheap.

Is there any goalie that would have done better in Edmonton? Let that sink in!

Which is a perfect situation for 2 guys trying to prove they can be the starter. An ideal situation for Rittich who can continue to strive for consistency.

I thought I remembered reading somewhere that Jordan Sigalet was very enamoured by Talbots skill set.

I like it.
Talbot has the game in him to bounce back to top form. Playing for trashcan teams can cripple a goalie, but getting to play with our group? Love it.
I'm a fan of this, and yeah - there were plenty of rumours we were in on Talbot before Edmonton acquired him.

If what I hear out of sources in Edmonton is true, Talbot could benefit from having Big Ern in the system.
Sounds like Talbot is doing his best to put his demons behind him.

I think this is a fine move. Talbot, like Rittich, is a guy who can get hot for long periods at a time but then go a couple of weeks a little cold. Hope they can alternate hot periods. If they can, I think the Flames could see a really solid tandem forming for them.

I did not see any talk about Parsons at all. Is his play totally fell off the cliff?

It would be nice to get actual assets for these guys but most of the teams have internal options or designs on UFAs. And there are much better players rumored to be out there available via trade. Tough time to have an overpaid depth player or two
|
I think you are very damn close to what the off season will be for the Flames. If they can trade Frolik with no salary retained I could see a depth forward free agent signing.
Talbot has to be better than what we has last year. It's a reasonable gamble although upon reflection, you might not want to be locked into this tandem for 2 years. One guy could be on a 1 year deal.

No, Tree spoke highly of Gillies and Parsons' 2nd half of the 2019/2020 season.
Goalies though. Who knows what happens or when it will happen.
