Instead of all the anecdotal stuff here's some concussion science.
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/12855924/
This study suggestd that a loss of consciousness (which Bennett's symptoms could fall under as an umbrella term, with his obviously being more mild) did not predict post concussive symptoms.
I'm guessing Peters was referring to a normal SCAT test for Bennett, which is our diagnostic criteria for a concussion. That would be good news.

A man with an average mustache-beard would probably be concussed. Luckily Bennie has no average mustache-beard

What a ridiculously unfortunate name for a medical test.

good news... i would prefer to be cautious with Bennett however... the next two games are meaningless, outside of getting into game shape
nothing wrong with holding him out for the Anaheim to ensure there isn't any things that come up afterwards.
Kyle Okposo's story just makes me want to be careful with all potentially concussed players moving forward

I enjoyed the comments here and on Twitter that more or less went "I'm not a doctor but that was definitely what I think it is"

It might not be a concussion, but rather his inner ear fluid got shaken so that's why he looked so off-balance.
If you've ever had your "bell rung", that's what the term really meant before, but now everyone associates it with a concussion.
I'm sure they went through the whole protocol and determined what it was appropriately.

Bennett looked like he didn't know where he was.
How can they possibly determine he'll return regular season after that? Post-concussive symptoms are already ruled out entirely?
A very strange assertion, to me. Hope the player is alright and given proper rest before return to play, hate to see these types of incidents rushed given time of year.

I get it...but in the same token, fans can't be faulted for skeptically looking at concussion protocol as a fool-proof system.
The NHL and its history have not earned the benefit of the doubt when it comes to looking after the safety of its players regarding concussions.
A player 'looking fine' after the game does not equal no concussion.

Byfuglien had a similar hit earlier this season, got crushed, passed the test and came back in the game. Only to get hit (a lot lighter) again and then he was full on concussed. Hope we can avoid that happening with Bennett.

Case in point. I think that speaks volumes to the efficacy of 'the test'.

Are the Flames known for hiding injuries and rushing guys back to play?
No? Ok I guess I will just go ahead and assume they are handling this properly behind the scenes and not get out my pitchfork and tinfoil hat.

What did your eyes tell you?

I wish I had more confidence in how NHL teams handle concussions in general but I don’t. Maybe it’s the BS public comments that put me off. Why be so certain Bennett will play again right away? That makes little sense.

You would be lucky to be my kid, your reading comprehension might even be a bit better.
If you go back and read I said "Ok I guess I will just go ahead and assume they are handling this properly behind the scenes". At no point did I say throw him back in with two meaningless games left

For me, a part of the worry is just that it's Bennett, who seems exactly the type that would try to hide his symptoms and really push that he wants to play.
A concussion now could shut him down for much of the playoffs.

And again, a player "looking" concussed, does not mean a thing either.
We either have the protocol (that the NHLPA are heavily involved in as well BTW) and follow it or we don't.
If we are just going to point at the past as "proof" things can't be trusted then anytime someone gets hit, and it "looks" bad, then that player will have to be benched for a few days..or weeks...or something.
What possible motive would Bill Peters have to state what he did, unless he was advised by the medical people (that apparently we cant trust now) that Sam is fine?
Meanwhile thousands of miles away while watching on TV someone says..."hmmm that looks like a concussion and he needs to sit"....and that's going to be the decider?
