Taking a while to get to 5000

Can't lose sight of the fact that both goalies are playing well and seem to be getting better as we head to the playoffs. Seems like great news no matter how you look at it

Exactly! Our goalie tandem has come under a lot of scrutiny this year and has deserved it, but both seem to be playing well now, and at the right time.

Rittich has certainly faced tougher opponents in each goalie's last five games, but Smith is right there in the last 10, 15 and 20

Is that Opp win% on the season that you've added or something else?
If so, I don't think that's very relevant. Bad offensive teams can have good win%s or vice versa so shouldn't have a decisive relation at all to the goalies Sv% in my opinion.

I think it relates to the "Smith gets the weaker opponents" issue.

Certainly it's relevant to look at win percentage as a proxy for the coach's view on a starter, which was my point. Lately Rittich is getting the tougher starts, but when you go back further it's pretty even.
Teams that are further up the standings require a goaltender on your side doing the job as there is less wiggle room.

That's Quality Starts % I believe, or the amount of times the goalie has achieved the season's mean save percentage over games started.

Well I personally hope that LA shoots 5 hole 5+ times do that everyone can get on the same page about smith. No chance he stops more than 1 out of 5 of those and it should put to rest this mind numbing predilection to start who is clearly the worst goalie in the league still getting regular starts

I’ve been disappointed with Smiths play at points during this season and completely understand the annoyance fans have with him but it gets nauseating at times and this post personifies that. Really.. you hope LA scores 4 out of 5 five hole goals in a row when the Flames are trying to lock up the Division?? You realize that we are a much, much stronger team heading into the playoffs with a confident Smith to go along with a confident Rittich right? I never understood the ‘hope he does terrible’ angle some posters take here and I even didn’t get it with Brouwer as much as I hated his time here.
I’m hoping Smith posts a shutout and wins his 3rd start in a row but hey that’s just me.

When a person would prefer to see one player fail, rather than a team succeed.
Sad

I hope Mike Smith continues to return to form. If he can continue playing like an All-star it'll be terrific news. He sure looks like he did when he was amazing last year.

So you would rather see the Flames lose or see them burn out a goaltender who has already played more games this season than at any time before in his career, rather than seeing Smith, who has strung together a number of nice games lately, succeed again against the worst team in the West and the lowest-scoring team in the league?
