Jeez how many of you who are crapping on Dzingel have even seen him play? He's very skilled and fast, he's much better than Chaisson and he's not small and soft like Spooner.

Either Duchene or the 2020 1st will be left over. I think I would prefer to keep the pick over Duchene. At least The Blue Jackets will have a lot of cap space to work with.
The Blue Jackets are probably tired of getting kicked out of the first round. At this point they don't want to just sit and do nothing with two big pending UFA's potentially walking out, so why not go all in?

Also, that is a worst case scenario. I am sure that they can find a way to re-sign Duchene and Dzingel. They probably have an idea on Panarin and Bob that they sought after 2 other free agents they can re-sign to compensate for the losses.

Must admit for Ottawa that is an amazing haul. Rather than have those players walk away at the end of the season for nothing, they now get to kickstart their rebuild through the draft with all of these picks. Not alot has gone right for them as of late, but if I were a Sens fan, this would leave me feeling pretty hopeful.

Uh yeah we will see about that. Remember that Colorado has Ottswa’s First pick this year (you know the pick that would really kickstart a rebuild) and that the odds of getting NHL players after round 1 are quite low.

Duclair is not anything special.

So.. I’d rather have Duchene and Dzingel personally. They must have really felt they couldn’t re-sign them I guess. I feel like every time Ottawa trades a star player Colorado does a fist pump.

I agree that Duclair isn't worth much.

But 2nd round picks are. The odds of getting the player there are quite a bit higher now. For an example, 18/30 2nd round picks from 2015 have already played in the NHL.

Or remember the 2011 draft when the Flames have all 5 picks make the NHL (4 of them are now NHL regulars). In 2011, 27/30 2nd round picks made the NHL. 23/30 of the 3rd round picks spent time in the NHL.

Duchene and Dzingel weren’t doing Ottawa any good this year. No one can seriously argue that Ottawa should have kept them and hope to sign them ( which, of course, they still can do).

Jeff Svoboda @JacketsInsider
Jarmo on potential to re-sign Ryan Dzingel: “He is definitely one of those players that we have identified as a candidate to stay here into the future. We did not just acquire him to be a rental.”

Dzingel: “There’s a very high chance of that if they want me.”
