too many passengers tonight... can't rely on one line against a team like TB

Yes. Easily.
Tampa struck like lightning. No pun intended.
Calgary was nonchalant, and looked like they play against lesser teams where they rely on their skill. But Skill + compete will beat skill without compete any time

More grinders is definitely not the answer for beating Tampa.

Need a JT Miller trade of our own. Can muck it, play hard but has a positive skill set that meshes well with a scoring line of secondary scoring line.

Time to stop wearing your homer glasses.
Time to trade for an actual stud goalie if you guys want to go deep into the playoffs.

Tom Wilson was hugely effective in eliminating them last year. Essentially the same Lightning roster

Zuccarello and Stone are the kind of players i mean. They aren't afraid to grind it out and go to the dirty areas to get goals.

Haha. You think the goalie was the difference tonight?
Terrible post.

A bit dramatic, they are one point back with a game in hand

Although I would have loved a different outcome, I have to admit Tampa played a near perfect game. If they have to lose, I hope the Flames look in the mirror and take a couple of big steps forward from here on out.

Not a good game from really anyone tonight. Tampa just wanted it more and it showed on the scoreboard.
Second line needs a big wake up call. Might be the worst stretch they’ve played since last season. Especially Tkachuk. Just seems off right now. Just to many soft plays especially in his own end lately. Frolik and Backs have really struggled last couple games too.
Don’t fault Rittich for the loss, but he was making a few of those saves that he just isn’t making lately. Hopefully just a slump, but if not he may force a decision by Treliving to get some insurance in two weeks at the deadline.

Mark Stone would be huge but he is the farthest thing from a grinder. Zuccarello is fine but I highly doubt is the difference maker. Tampa was basically better than us in every possible way tonight. I don't think that is the full story but I have a hard time seeing us beating them in 7 games.

Anyone else worried about Tkachuk lately? Has been a passenger since the break. Haven't like him nor Backlund and Fro's effort the last 4-5 games.

Way too much credit to Tampa in here the Flames are capable of delivering a beat down when firing on all cylinders.

Too bad Howard will cost a first.
Would be nice to have a 1A/1B thing going on rather than Rittich and then a shooter tutor

The Vegas broadcast just put this stat up for some context:
Flames had 1 game in hand on SJ and 2 on VEG on Jan 12th, and were +1 and 2 pts on them.
Flames currently have 1 game in hand on SJ, and will have 2 on VEG after their game ends (0-0 still), and are 1 pt back of SJ and +8 on VEG.
So after what feels like a pretty awful stretch here after the All-Star break, including a loss to SJ themselves, we've only lost 2 points on them and still have a game in hand, and have pulled well ahead of Vegas.

Personally I think Nyquist is the answer to the 2nd line. He plays hard, isn't afraid to go to the tough areas on the ice, has a tonne of skill, very fast and thinks the game at a high level.
Tkachuk - Backlund - Nyquist
He would also fit in very well on that 2nd pp unit, on the half boards.

I find it funny how some of you hardly post until the Flames lose...haven't seen much of you this season
you know who you are lol
Flames have work to do, they have also essentially clinched a divisional playoff spot in February. So if you thought they were a bubble team before the season you shouldn't be too negative right now.
Can the Flames play better? Yes
Can they improve the roster? Yes
Don't forget this is the Flames first time in this position in 20 some years...they are not at their peak yet. Tampa are
