Like I said, and thanks Flash for the backup.
This smacks as a directive coming from the owner ship office. What Oiler fans should be terrified of and the rest of us happy with is this.
Katz is perfectly content to let Chia take this on, that means that he has confidence enough in Chia's survival ability to let him put major assets on the market.
If he didn't he would have fired Chia put Mac-T and Lowe in charge and said "Y'all boys know about winning raight? Now prove it"

If the Blues traded Tarasenko to Edmonton and Hitchcock right before his NTC kicks, in boy will he be mad (unless he feels like McDavid changes everything).

2M retained on James Neal for their unprotected first.
That way when we pick a top forward in the top 5 they'll be a cheap addition at effectively 3M

Now that this news is out, the anchor salesmen will be racing to get in line to get to chia first. This is going to be a massive failure for the Oilers. Again. Kind of a lather, rise, repeat cycle they are stuck in.

How does this end with the Flames getting Simmonds and the Oilers 1st?
Get Ferland involved so he can re-sign here in the off-season and add to salt mountain
There is no way any Oiler fan should have good feelings about this. There's a bunch of morons trying to save their jobs and they're throwing the teams future at fixing it this year.
There's way too many problems to fix at the deadline, and it doesn't even start at forward. Nevermind you don't have the cap space, the assets, or team chemistry on your side to turn this thing around. Just imagine them somehow pulling off whatever dream deal they think they can make... how do you get this new player to buy-in to what they're selling?

Hahaha! I like this term.
I mean, he probably should have started with this rather than all of the stupid little trades first.
What a fiasco. I hope that 1st gets out of this division because I can see the Oilers getting to their usual elimination point and just spiraling into a huge freefall.
And further, if they want to lottery protect that pick its going to become a whole lot less valuable in a hurry so that might not even be on the table.
This is basically Chia at the Roulette table betting it all on hope.

Two people from Edmonton are going to be very happy soon.

They will trade JP for Simmonds and he won't be able to keep up. He will then leave as a UFA because nobody wants to be in Edmonton.

Team lacks offence. Draft tons of one dimensional forwards. Notice lack of a defensive game. Continue to draft forwards. Continue to notice lack of defensive game. Trade a substantial amount of forwards for defensive help. Sign aging past his prime forward. Notice lack of offensive ability. Trade more forwards for help on the defensive end. Continue to notice lack of offensive depth and start to notice lack of depth in farm system. Begin to trade draft picks and forwards.
Am I doing this right?

FYI Talbot has a modified no-trade clause where he identified 10 teams he can be traded to. So that handcuffs the Oilers even moreso.

Watch them trade their 1st, Talbot and Larsson for Hall!
Chia: " What? Larsson isn't a forward?"
As he thought he had Johan Larsson....

He must be dying to tell Chiarelli the teams he'd rather not be sent to.

I don't think it's a stretch to believe he'd waive the NTC, he's a pending UFA, and likely not re-signing in Edmonton, why would he limit his chance to get out?
Though trading Talbot seems unlikely, he's paid to be a starter, and has subpar backup numbers. There's going to be younger, cheaper backups available for less than what the Oilers will want to get out of Talbot if their plan is a playoff push. With that said, if their plan is a playoff push, why are they considering moving Talbot, when Koskinen is a 30 year old rookie, coming down off a hot streak. Do they intend to recall Montoya, and ride him to the promised land?
The Oilers literally can not win a trade right now, unless they move Draisaitl, or McDavid.
They are dealing from a position of weakness, with no cap space, so they have to move out big money (which is tied to under performing players) and hope to get better, cheaper players in return, which doesn't happen in the NHL.

I dont think you can list 'Edmonton' 21 times especially when you're already there.
At this point I think Talbot would waive that NTC faster than a Frenchman waving a White Flag.

Oilers should be sellers, instead they are not just buyers, but desperate buyers with only the playoffs in mind. Never change Oilers, never change.

I really hope we will get to see Chiarelli trade the 1st round pick in a desperate attempt to save his job. It would be a glorious day.

I do wonder if Drai can return a ton.
IMO he's good, but I would be wary as another GM of how much his stats are inflated by McD... he hasn't really shown an ability to produce sans McDavid, and at his cap hit, that is a huge risk
