Yeah how can you call it an All Star game when the best Dman isn’t there?
I know the game is gimmicky and meaningless but it is frustrating to see the Flames having their best season in memory leading the conference yet the Pacific team is dominated by stupid Sharks and Oilers.
If this happened 20 years ago when I was a kid and actually cared about these games I would be pissed.

It would be a joke. Just like the All Star game and the fan voting. That's a jersey foul I would probably let slide. He fully deserves to be there.

Yeah OK. Sent back to junior, sent to minors and then has basically lit it up since he's been a regular. (including before being paired with 97) On pace for 100 points and is obviously deserving. Most fans would rather watch a skilled forward over almost every dman outside a few. If Draisaitl had fallen to the Flames you'd be rocking his jersey right now.

Wow.

Nuge hasn't lived up to the hype, Yak was a bust, Hall was a franchise player but had to be sacrificed. The Oilers really got lucky getting Draisaitl and Nurse as those two will have huge roles when they are hoisting the next cup.

Draisaitl would be centring the second line on this team, and for much, much less than $8.5 m a year.

I'll be honesty, I voted for the players whose team were in playoff spots. Give Gio an extended break!

I don't know Giordano's thoughts on it, but I think this type of event means more to younger players than to older players. Most veterans with wives and/or families at home would probably rather take the few days off to do normy stuff that they usually don't get to do for most of the year. I mean, the NHL wouldn't have to penalize players that choose not to go if it was universally desirable. Younger players looking for attention probably love the dick waving of the ASG.
Personally, I don't think I have watched a full All-Star game in 20 years.

Lol guy was a fan vote in...Mony has just as many points and the Flames are leading the conference 15 points up on the Oilers.
All that being said the only reason Gio isn't there is the Sharks are hosting.
Flames also have their coach going due to having the BEST RECORD.

They had an interview with Giordano on the Fan960. He sounded relieved he wasn't going and said it's not a big deal.

It will be a damn shame if any overage because of bonus money paid out for All-Star appearances negatively affects the Oiler’s salary cap money for next year.

At least Draisaitl has a ride to the game...on McJesus' coattails. I would have prefered literally anyone else.

I just New those ass clowns up north would get dry saddle to the game. Guy can’t even carry his own line yet he gets recognition as an all star. Oh well, enjoy it Oiler fans. The All Star game will be your highlight this season. Everyone knows the Oilers story when they are playing in games that actually matter.

Frankly who cares, the all star weekend is meaningless.
Its not real hockey, there's no emotion to the games and it might as well be like a slam dunk tournament.
I'd rather that as many Flames sit at home and put their feet up and get some rest before they play more meaningful hockey games.
The All Star game for McDavid and Draisaitl and the Oiler fans is the last meaningful game of the year for them.
