I’d say “butt hurt” pretty aptly describes some of the comments in this thread. Certainly not the majority, but some.

But.. you know that?

Don’t be made because one of your comment’s got called out for being as silly as it is. Injuries aside, he’s made a fine little career for himself. Good point production compared to other comparables in his draft class, and I don’t see anyone of them hanging on by a thread.
Um, I am not going to get mad about a discussion about Baertschi, but thanks for your concern. And which comment do you think was silly? I am curious.

Bartschi's crappy attitude was enough to me the trade worth it even before we knew who Andersson was.

He was ready to quit the NHL if he didn't get his way.

The trade was fine, and personally I’m happy to see Sven having some success.

The big win was the use of the 2nd round pick on Andersson. And Flames seemed to do a nice job of developing him on top of it, especially considering his early struggles.

Especially since he plays LW and only LW.

He is close to the grocery stick between 2nd and 3rd line players, but I believe he can produce in a top 6 role, so by my definition, that makes him a top 6 player. I think at times we overrate what kind of production to expect from a 2nd line player. 15 goals is 2nd line production.

This said, I'll revise my statement a bit after looking at the depth charts of some of the Western Conference teams. Baerstchi is a top 6 winger on most bottom tier teams, he's a solid top 9 winger on most good teams.

Winnipeg. No.
Anaheim. No.
Calgary. No
San Jose. No.
Nashville. No.
Vegas. No.
Minnesota. No.
St Louis. No.
Chicago. No.
Los Angeles. No.

Vancouver. Yes. I'd take him over Eriksson and Roussel.
Arizona. Yes I'd take him over Crowse, Perlini, Panik, etc...
Edmonton. Yes. He would instantly be their 4th best forward and best winger.
Dallas. Yes They have very little depth after Benn-Seguin-Radulov.
Colorado. Yes. They have very little depth after Rantanan-McKinnon-Landeskog

Even some of the "no, he would not be a top 6 player" teams could use him a depth scoring piece. Nashville doesn't have a lot of left shot forwards. St Louis, Chicago and LA could all use the scoring.

Disagree on Colorado - Compher is better. And younger.

Okay sure, on the others. But no playoff teams.

As for him being a useful 3rd liner, he has 2 even strength points this year and had 20 last year, despite playing with Horvat and Boeser. He isn't garbage, he is simply replacement level.

Andersson is the better asset IMO..

I was one of Sven's biggest fans and thought he was going to be a strong top 6 player.

I really started to sour on him when I heard a post of his ridiculing some guy for checking out his girlfriend at the airport. His wording, although could be attributed to english being his second language, was in poor taste.

He said something along the lines of "don't look at my girl, she is mine, get your own girl." I'm paraphrasing but I didn't like the way it reflected upon him.

It made me question his character, whether that was fair of me or not I didn't like it.

Not too long after he requested a trade after struggling here so it really made me sour on him.

I rooted for him big time back in the day and still remember being at the game where he scored, on the first shift of the game, for the 3rd game in a row (pretty sure Nemiez assisted on it) and the dome was chanting his name..

It was extremely exciting considering how barren our prospect depth charts were.

The more important question is whether you'd rather have Reto Berra or Hunter Smith...

Andersson will likely become a top pairing guy. Good trade.

I see Andersson as no worse than a second pairing Dman, so a 4 at worst.

Sven, i really liked the kid, but soured on the way he talked about Calgary on the way out... now credit to the kid, i think he's matured since then and turned into a regular 3rd line NHL'er...

but whereas Sven has pretty much maxed out, I think Andersson has a ton of growth left in him...

Calgary wins this trade because they made a good pick and gave him time to mature in the minors...something that Sven probably needed, but Calgary couldn't give to him
