i dont think thats a suspendable play - very unsportsmanlike but not suspendable - if every slash like that in the like was suspended wouldnt be a lot of players around

I’m from a different generation maybe but was hoping to see one of our players take a swing at one of their stars after that play. I don’t like that Buff’s slash went unanswered.

There was 2:06 left when it happened. Winnipeg had penalty killers on. Flames had Neal and Bennett on,trying to get both of them off the schnide.

Buff stayed on for the last 6 seconds and Tkachuk bumped him after the buzzer.

As an aside, Winnipeg’s arena is how old? And the players still have to cross the ice to go to the dressing room?

I think the empty net changes the rule, as it should.

He got a penalty, Gaudreau wasn't severely injured and Byfuglien doesn't have a history of predatory play. Nothing will come from it.

Yeah, this.

He got pyloned and choked up and swung. No way is that a hockey play. I have no idea what he was thinking there other than:

"Oh crap, I got beat, better do something."

If that hadnt gone in the net I'd hope the refs would pull their heads out of their collective asses and awarded the goal. But once again, a dirty, desperate play in a finished game.

Of all the things I hate about the league, the slashing has got to be right up there. Absolutely no need to wack a guy like that. It's not a hockey play. It's a player angry he got danced around as his team is losing, and his temper gets the best of him and his first reaction is to cause the player physical harm. I hate head shots. I hate hits from behind. And I hate useless slashes like this. Reminds me of the Mcsorley slash, except it wasn't on the head. No need for it and as a fan I'm pissed we still have crap like that during the year 2018. Wasn't this #### supposed to be gone after the 2005 lockout??

It's not even a homer thing to say Buff should be suspended. I'd be pissed if I was watching a game and this happened to McDavid, Pettersson, or during some random eastern conference game. Heck I'd be pissed if a Flames' player did that to a Jets' player. Absolute garbage.

Screw the fines, owners and GMs (not just the Flames) need to start publicly calling out the league to do something about it. I'm sure they do it behind closed doors. But clearly it's not enough. Start publicly shaming a league that allows this stuff to happen to the star players fans pay to see. I watch hockey to see players perform moves exactly like Gaudreau did in that moment. Not for a dumb schmuck to whack him with his stick because he's angry.

It's absolutely an intent to injure. It's needless. It's dangerous. And it's f'ing stupid. I'll be very annoyed if Buff isn't suspended.

I’m not sure it’s a suspendable play but it should be. I doubt he’ll get anything but it was violent and completely unnecessary.

Well at least big Buff confirmed to himself that he can have a surefire career as a lumberjack after hockey if he so chooses.

Side talents are good to have!

I can't wait for this guy to retire. Everytime he plays the Flames I think everyone hates me.

I mean... Chubby Buff? I'm not chubby. I'm soft to run into!
