Here's my theory: the Flyers started talking to Quenneville and it got to a point where they thought they could hire him as their new coach, but didn't want to release the news yet because he wasn't available for a press conference. So they leaked it to a few members of the media. Then someone pointed out that Dave Hakstol was - against all reason and common sense - still employed by the team. This came as a shock, and both Holmgren and Fletcher were reeling, trying to figure out what to do. "I don't even have Dave's number anymore! Do you?" "Of course not, I assumed you'd fired him long before you got rid of Hextall! What the hell were you thinking?" Finally, they managed to track him down and officially terminate his employment.

Makes sense though. They played the Jets well, but lost. They didn't play us well, but their goalie had them up 5-3 with 1:09 left. The collapse here resulted in that team completely quitting and looking feeble against both Edmonton and Vancouver.
It's quite possible that Fletcher decided to fire Hakstol after our game, but given they were in the middle of a three in four stretch on the road, held off on making his plans known until the team returned to Philly.
Or, as it turned out, until the team's plane took off from Vancouver. The leak yesterday happened while the Flyers were in the air.

Then they put on their big floppy shoes, sprayed each other with selzer and hopped into the little car.

Between the Gallant fiasco and the Oilers firing Krueger over Skype this is a close third.
Although seeing Gritty running practice drills would definitely qualify for some extra credit.

Fair, but this one gets extra points for the unnecessary media circus.

Oh, absolutely.
I correlate the following events of demise to the Flames this monster season. If not entire credit, then at least reasonable credit for several other organizations looking in the mirror and needing to act
- Quenneville firing from Chicago (last opponents Flames)
- McLellan firing from the Oil (after the Vegas game sequence)
- Arizona post game same day trades
- Hakstol firing on Philly road trip where Calgary’s 3 goals in 1:42 tie and win in OT
Calgary breaks the NHL 2018-19.

LA knew they'd lose to Calgary in a couple days so they fired Stevens preemptively.
