He's got balls but I wonder if he's going to get himself into trouble one of these games. There was that scrum last night where Andersson was pulling Reaves out of it and you could see Reaves just staring at him thinking "who the hell is this guy?".

No big reason really. I am not saying that Monahan wouldn't be a decent choice.

I don't think the captaincy is going to change any time soon. Gio is still signed for 4 more seasons and anything can happen in that time. The team may even be unrecognizable by then (Monahan will be eligible to be a UFA before Hanifin's contract is up). I project that Hanifin will be a top pairing defenseman by then, and if so, could lead the team in ice time.

Hanifin is an honest and hard working player and if his career proceeds like many thought he would when he was drafted, he should be captain material by 2022. He seems extremely professional.

I like Monahan, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him traded before his NTC clause kicks in and the Flames have to pay him a $3.5 million bonus, if the Flames fail to build a cup contender by then.

Are any other Flame prospects currently Captains or Alternate Captains of their teams?

Not current of course, but Dube comes to mind

In sports I played growing up who the Captain had zero affect on the team. I’m not sure if there would be a difference in professional sports.

So I’d put it on the guy you don’t want to lose in free agency to make it more difficult for them to leave. So Gaudreau
Just think about who hoists the Cup first.

I don't have luxury to get many jerseys in my life (they are expensive) but I have five named ones - Fleury 1996, Iginla 2004, Kipper Heritage Classic, Gaudreau 2015, and Tkachuk 2017 retro. I think no doubt he has the hockey smart and IQ. Whether he will be the next captain is debatable but he is definitely a game changer.

Nice selection of customized jerseys!

Agreed, Tkachuk is special and I also see the counterpoint that if he plays on the edge, he may not be (at this point, and in the near future) the guy who has that relationship with the stripes.

We all know the Flames and the stripes right now are sometimes not seeming to be watching the same games.
