BTW, Backlund was quoted as saying not making the Flames in 09-10 out of camp was hard on him, though he worked hard in the A, and he only got his confidence from being called up to the NHL. Then he never looked back (albeit he went to the AHL after the Flames missed the POs to help out the Heat).
I just don't know that the thought of "getting confidence back" actually plays out that often. Maybe it's the quality of player. IMO Dube is no Poiriet or Shinkaruk. But there's a real risk of getting mired down there. It certainly did nothing for Sven. And Dube is no liability up here either.

Being sent back to junior is a bit different IMO. That's a kid being sent to play with kids. Dube already was sent back to the minors, out of camp last year.
And I doubt Draisaitl's 2 points in 6 games in the AHL really boosted his confidence.

The reason Draisaitl "found his game" was because he was inserted onto a Hall-Hopkins-Draisaitl line, later Hall-Draisaitl-Purcell, later McDavid & Friends. Pretty much every breakout in the NHL can be tied to more NHL opportunity in terms of linemates or minutes or both.
All that said, I think Dube needs to be sent down because he needs to play center. Playing wing is not doing him many favours.

If you want him to get better he needs to play. He’s not playing much so send him down.

Even though Dube has a lot to learn for the NHL he should stay up in the NHL to improve. He brings speed to that struggling line.

Dube is an NHL player in the making. He has games on his belt now, he knows what it takes to earn minutes. Give him some time in the AHL to boost up that confidence, injuries are bound to happen and he/Mangiapane are probably the first forward call ups.

That's the thing - I don't think he needs to do better considering his age - I think he's doing fine. He's just been about as snakebitten as Bennett and Backlund. He's had at least two breakaways and a number of close in chances.
And I never expected him to play higher up the lineup than what he has this year. I do think his games since his injury have been worse than before, so that's an argument the other way.

I think that even with Backlund saying that, taking off his Flames jersey was something he decided he never wanted to do again. Just like the Flames played with that much more confidence last night after taking it to the Oil the game before. So much of everything you do is mental.
That being said, I hope it's just a dip in the pond. A month or less would be ideal. I think it'll only take a few games of top-6 minutes (another huge reason the send-down has benefits) before he starts putting his name on the scoresheet. Regaining the belief that you're not snake-bitten or that you're not good enough goes a long way.
YMMV of course. Some players never get that re-call for a reason.

Honestly, I haven't seen anything that would suggest he is ready to stay up with the club. He's been pretty invisible for the most part other than the few times he's been run over by players from the other team.
Send him down, get him some minutes there and see how it goes.

Watched him last night, didn't really think he belonged. Looked behind, out of sync, or lost on most plays.
However, my idea was that after it was 5-0 they should have had Dube, Neal and Johnny + Monahan & Gio on as a powerplay unit, to see if they get can anything going for either of those guys. Oh well.

Last nights ice time among the whole team was spread out more evenly than it has ever been, hopefully we continue to see more of it throughout the season.
Garnet Hathaway at nearly 17 minutes including power play time was shocking!

Wouldn’t be a good idea against a stronger team. Last night was a test to see what they did with the opportunity to get more ice time. It was risk free in the 3rd.

Nice goal last night, immediately righted the game direction, and the same as a bunch of chances that didn't happen to go in.
Let's see if his puck luck has changed.

Don't know what's wrong with Frolik with his injury, but he'll be here until Frolik is back at least. Perhaps he has a good two game road trip and they keep him over Czarnik in the lineup - but I also don't mind sending him down to get top minutes in Stockton.
I do think he's had some lingering effects from the hit in Game 1 that affected things. Hopefully now that he has the monkey off his back, he can work his way to more ice time.

Dube is on a 1 game goal streak. Keep him in the NHL.
In all honesty, I think Calgary needs to keep him up. He makes them a deeper team, and good teams need 4 lines rolling. The days of the plugs playing on the 4th line are long gone. Don’t be surprised if Dube earns 3rd line minutes and 2nd line PP duties eventually this season. If he wasn’t so snake bitten early on this season, he could easily have 5 or 6 goals already.
I’m routing for him to stay up at the NHL level, but I would completely understand the reasoning if they did in fact send him down.

My guess is Peters mentioned publicly that they needed to make a decision on Dube because he was very close to being sent down. It is probably a coaching, management team decision. It was another way of saying "I need to see something now" and I think he (Peter's) was in Dube's corner but at that point they were not seeing enough "whether through the injuries, or just not NHL ready". Dube needs to step up and show he belongs because the coaches need to see it. I think last night he brought his A game.
