I always wonder how other team forums analyze their competition the way we do for the flames. Feels like for every team that the flames play, we’re talking about how skilled the other team is and how their top guy is the best in the league.

I wonder if fans of other teams are saying that about Gaudreau or, more generally, Gaudreau’s line. I think he’s one of the top offensive talents in the league and still has untapped potential. Even on a bad night, he sets up 3-4 prime scoring chances. And I believe he is by far the most elusive player in the league with a puck on his stick.

"Ahh man our only good line is going to draw the Backlund matchup. Hopefully they can win a few shifts and score on their chances but I have a feeling our top line are gonna be shut down tonight."

"Hopefully they start Smith. He's the worst goaltender in professional hockey. Honorable mention to Condon."

"Pretty even matchup if our first line shows up. I'd be happy to get this to OT."

Something along the lines of hitting the "midget" or stopping him from scoring and diving... Gaudreau does not get nearly the same type of respect imo.

In the pregame interview (rough transcript):

“It’s a big call early in the second period, changed the complexion of the game. Instead of being 1-0 it would have been 1-1. Instead of chasing, we would have been able to play more guys”.
Working the refs that way can be a benefit sometimes. It's probably better done in a way that doesn't call into question particular non-calls or calls. Like "teams have been getting away with hacking Johnny a lot lately" as opposed to "Ref X blew that call".

I haven't been able to chirp him too much yet today, but an Avs friend mentioned a few times last game how he hates playing against Gaudreau.

Basically that whenever you play the Flames you have to watch in constant fear that a goal will come from nowhere.

I’d really love to have a laugher one of these days. A game that we have in hand all night long, without any stress. How about a 6-0 win tonight?

Yes, if they can score 2 goals each period, that would be real nice.

Oh man, a laugher would be great. That said, this could be a tough one. Colorado is coming off of a loss, but it was waaay back on the 27th. They've had four days off, and we are getting them at the start of their road trip, not the end. However, I Billieve!

Peters has the team (mostly) turned around since the Pittsburgh pummeling. A little more of the solid goal tending we've been getting as of late, and I think this one is in the bag.

4-3 Flames, a little secondary scoring shows up as well.

Go Flames Go!

Those are the kind of things I figure fans of other teams are thinking going up against the flames. We all are nervous when other star players like Crosby or McKinnon or McDavid play the flames... that they will dominate the game. I imagine it goes the other way lots of times where the opponent’s fans are nervous that Johnny will be making their defence look foolish all night and that tkachuk will drive them crazy being one of the best skilled pests in the league.

Used to think Minnesota fans would have absolutely hated playing the flames because Iginla would work them over every single time the flames played them.

Have we ever had one of these?

Last one I can think of was in Colorado - what was that, 3 years ago?

The Flames gloriously beat the Ducks 8-3 a couple years ago. That was fun.

I bet a lot of the guys using this oh so original "midget" epithet aren't much taller than Gaudreau himself, if at all. 5'6" (or whatever he is) isn't that far below the population's average height. Obviously it's unusual in pro sports, although in hockey that is changing.

At least be creative if you're going to insult someone.

Yes, good call. I was at that game (and it feels like I haven't seen a W since).

Doesn't count. The season was over, and our hearts and souls were already crushed.
