Ryan and/or Neal need to sit. Neither are good enough. If Peter's is willing to sit Frolik, he's ready to sit Ryan/Neal.

You say Brodie doesn't worry you yet Hannifin worries you and he is Brodie-level bad.
Strange take.

This game was a continuation of what we’ve seen from opening night. The defence is bad. Not average, bad.
Hanafun has been okay, but is a downgrade from Hamilton. You’re fooling yourself if you think otherwise. Brodie has not rebounded by playing with Gio. Stone doesn’t make the roster of any other playoff team. The kids have been good. But good for guys expected to play 10-15 minutes a game.
This team struggles to move the puck. They give up a ton of shots. The bottom six is better than last year, but marginally given the upgrade of on-paper talent.
Smith has been brutal. Rittich stole two points for us but is a backup.
In my view, so far we are looking at the same team we’ve always had. A borderline playoff team.

Brutal hockey game, much like the one in NY. Still having problems with the defensive end of the game.
This time Rittich wasn't able to bail us out.

Sit them both. Neal's been worse -- by far -- but the message needs to be sent.
Boy, that Neal deal is looking horrendous. What a lethargic player.

for as bad as everyone is complaining about the powerplay they're still 18th. Nashville and San Jose are worse. Judging by this thread you'd think they were 31st.

A bad penalty call, yes.
How the refs can get suckered in by a blatant dive, yet Gaudreau gets boarded dangerously with no call... I just don't get officiating these days.

Unlike Neal and Ryan, Monahan has a long track record of excellent play for this team. What, are you part of that pitiful group that thinks he only scores "garbage goals"?

Brodie is not a top 4 D on a contending team. When Hamonic is back I wouldn’t mind Rasmus playing full time with Gio and us trying to move Brodie or Stone.

I kind of thought we would be a borderline playoff team though so it's about par for the course. Did you think they were all of a sudden better than Vegas or San Jose who picked up Karlsson?

They’re 4-1-2, playing hard, and have an elite goaltender. They’re not as bad as everyone predicted.

I don't mind losing a game if the effort is there. No effort until the end just as previous years. I love the Flames, and always have, but being a fan of this team is a painful experience...

Monahan, Neal, and Brodie have been the biggest problems on the team so far this season IMO.
Those 3 really need to get their game together in order for this team to get going.

Impressive, 21 minutes for Rasmus Andersson, nearly 3 minutes on the power-play.
The top two lines played a lot, it was likely the lowest minutes for the 3rd line so far this season.

PP1 is hot and cold, but produces.
PP2 hasn't done anything all year. I really don't get why Neal isn't being used as the triggerman on the 2nd group, but as the puck distributor behind the goal line. I like Andersson in that group though lately, but we need a concrete strategy that generates shots at least.
A less skilled PP group should park someone competent in front (Bennett), and use an umbrella at the point to switch onetimer options using the frontman for screens / deflections / rebounds. Instead it's all perimeter puck movement along the boards until we lose possession.
