Maybe I imagined t. But it appeared as though Gudbranson was complaining that his helmet was still on after he landed a couple off the bucket. Hamonic reaches up to undo his chinstrap and pow, final punch is landed at the same time. Really didn’t like that.

I thought he was reaching to his face because it was hurt, not to take the bucket off.

That's what it looked like to me.

I guess we'll know more this afternoon. If he's out for an extended period of time, I expect we'll see Andersson in town tomorrow.

Yeah he immediately reached for the jaw after the upper cut.
Don't think it had anything to do with taking his helmet off

I rewatched and you’re right. I hadn’t noticed that landed uppercut.

It isn't much different than our normal defensive line up. One guy is missing.
So how would you classify our defense normally? If that is "ugly, ugly" then even with Hammer it's still got to be worth one ugly.

You don't fight Gudbranson! He's too big for that!
You accidentally-on-purpose slewfoot him in a board battle. Every single time in the corner. Every single time, just BAM! Dumped on the ice like a sack of bricks by someone 50 lbs lighter than him. It's not like he's fast enough to ever catch you, should he take offense to it!

I really hope we avoid that and go out and punish all the skilled players on the nucks. This is over his treatment of our young Dube. I'd love to see Neal put petterson ot dahlin out for 5/10 games.

We'll see what happens with Hamonic but Frolik missed a lot of time with broken jaw last season. They're tough injuries. Hopefully it's just a precaution or rest day.

While I have no doubt Gudbranson hits hard, I'm not sure its a Burns slap shot to the face hard.

It's not a great defense even with Hamonic. Go is Gio, but until Brodie shows the last two down years were outliers instead of natural trends, I have serious doubts.
Hanifin should be steady as well but young defenders are going to be prone to mistakes.
Stone bleeds shots against.
I'm a big fan of Valimaki but he's also very young.

Yep, there are all sorts of ways for everyone in the lineup regardless of their physical stature, to play a hard nosed game in response to a teammate(s) getting obliterated.
Stick blade into the back of the knee, crosscheck on the hip down the thigh, snow in the goalies face, flip pucks off the glass in the corner so the puck is contested in the feet, holding the puck and waiting for the reverse hit. Hack on the laces.
Even the slightest of guys can play chippy if they want to.
Really disappointing lack of pushback from Calgary's core group during that game.

The best response is to bury the opposing team on the powerplay. Had the Flames managed to take advantage of the extra man last night there would have been no need for Hamonic to deliver a pugilistic reprisal.

I agree, and that's also where 'soft' guys can show their moxie. Play hard on the Powerplay. Take command of the puck. Shoot to score. Be physical in keeping possession.
No one on the Flames seemed to want the puck on that ensuing powerplay.

The Dillon Dube interview today was pretty suggestive that he knows something that isn't public yet:
Regarding the fight: "It's pretty unfortunate what happened, it's hockey".
Regarding being grateful for Hamonic sticking up: "I got to do a lot for him when...for the rest of the year".

You fight Gudbranson. The right person on the roster fought Gudbranson.
This is what fighting looks like when it's actually 'part of the game'. A guy who can play does something that crosses a line, and then fights another guy who can play.
Win the fight.
