I assume that he simply isn't paid during his suspension. That would be based on his salary this year, would it not, and wouldn't include the signing bonus already paid?

How much money does a Player forfeit when suspended?
Non-repeat offenders lose salary based on the number of days in the season. For example, if there are 190 days in a season, a three game suspension would cost a non-repeat offender 3/190ths of his average salary.
Repeat offenders lose salary based on the number of games in a season (82). For example, a three game suspension would cost a repeat offender 3/82nds of his average salary.

They also clearly explained that he was eligible for contact, and that players cutting to the middle expect to be hit. Just that the hit was illegal due to point of contact.

I haven't got a problem with this suspension.

I hope not. I agree they probably will. But they need to pull their heads out of their nethers and realize they represent all of the players, including the guys getting injured by these recklas and unnecessary hits.

Great to see this lengthy suspension. That hit was unnecessary and should be removed from the game.
I am still confused by the NHL wheel of justice however. How does Domi get zero regular season games for a sucker punch to the head? At least the Wilson hit was a hockey play.

They are a union and one of their members is forfeiting over $1million in salary.
They aren’t the problem here, not even close.

One thing to consider, if the NHL is going this hard on repeat offenders, we might be looking at a pretty long suspension when Tkachuk inevitably does something sketchy...

I understand that it is a reality of union representation. But two of their members are suffering broken jaws and concussions because this nitwit can't figure it out. Where is the union representation for the laundry list of injured individuals who have been the victims of this thug?
The fact that the union hasn't taken actions to try and curb this, and in fact takes actions to limit the NHL's ability to curb this, is very much the problem.

Are you of the opinion that they are not also equally on the victims side?

Are they? Will the union send a representative to the appeal to argue on behalf of the numerous players Wilson has injured and argue against shortening the suspension?

Well they have ensured that the injured player will continue to be paid. Which I would bet the NHL owners would love to change.
They have to audit these decisions to ensure they have sound reasoning behind the length and that this wasn’t the reason:

It’s not going to be reduced, but I see no problem with the NHLPA looking into it, if for nothing more than a measuring stick for a future event.

I think it’s enough only if the player he hit is actually okay.
I was a huge fan of Marc Savard and Matt Cooke and Matt Hunwick ended his career .
Paul Kariya was another I simply cannot forget or forgive.
There’s many more who had careers cut short and no real justice served especially when they have to live with the consequences and not the hitter.....such horse S!!
We cannot have these players in the league anymore . It’s BS. 20 games after 4 other incidents in such close proximity tells me Wilson doesn’t get it. At all!!!
Guys playing like a egomaniac hero who just won the cup and I don’t buy into this as being a lesson he’s going to finally learn.
And to the poster suggesting Tkachuk is heading in this direction. Get a grip . I mean seriously get some help.
My opinion and no one else’s.

Just about every impartial and rational hockey person has said the NHL needs to make an example of this so that they can protect players from these types of players and hits. The NHL did just that. If the NHLPA appeals the decision and takes no internal action to attempt to prohibit this type of behavior then no, they are not also equally on the victims side.

Yeah that’s not how it works. But this conversation is a waste of time apparently. Let’s continue to bash the NHLPA, they probably told Wilson to do it.

The NHLPA has formally filed an appeal on behalf of Tom Wilson for his 20-game suspension. The timing of when NHL commissioner Gary Bettman will hear it is still being determined.

I hope the appeal turns the suspension into 40 games.
