Do you hate it more than typing "Booo" or "Damnit" when Rittich/Gillies let in a stinker?

Because McBackup never does that.

Still too traumatized from McBackup to be happy going back to that well. He was given so much rope here for how bad he sucked.
Really, he was the poster child of "why the hell does Sutter refuse to get a proper backup for Kipper."

Every goalie does, Rittich and Gillies more so than most.
For the record, Id rather not have McBackup either. But ill take a goalie upgrade if there is one available, regardless of how difficult the spelling.

Not really. Rittich was a fairly average if not slightly above average goalie at his position last season. There are a tonne of NHL goalies who struggle with consistency and focus, and who allow bad goals with frequency.

He was well below average when Smith went down.
Id prefer a goalie that can at least maintain average when called upon due to an injury.

He was a ROOKIE playing in his first NHL season. A player's career and potential is not defined by cherry-picked slices of their body of work. I would be surprised if Rittich was not better in this, his second NHL season.

Lets hope he is much better.
Being a rookie is irrelevant to what im saying. If the Flames wish to contend, they need more from a backup. If he can't be held to higher expectations due to his experience, find someone else.
I have no worries about him playing 15-20 games spread out over 82, I'm worried about what happens if Smith goes down and his workload increases.

There is definitely a risk here, I agree. But the thing with young players is that at some point you must trust them either to sink or swim. And even if a player falters at that point, it is not necessarily something that should disqualify him from future opportunities. Rittich made big strides last year graduating from an AHL goalie to a competent NHL backup. I am interested to see if he can take another step, and this is a perfect situation for him to show that he has. We should know what he is after this year, but we are not there yet.

I'd grab Pickard.
I could see some other teams interested as well in grabbing him or McBackup.
- WSH
- BUF
- CHI (if Crawford's out a while)
- MTL?
- WPG

Two teams who have dicey options in net. Makes sense.
Cue the outrage about how we didn't pick up these guys from the vocal minority.

well i figured both McE and Pickard would be claimed but am suprised who by since they already seemed set in goal. I guess Carolina's upgrading on Lack. Philly grabbing Pickard is surprising since they have Hart in the system and he looked good in preseason.
