5 years would be a trash deal, unless Hanifin wants less than 4 mil. Bridge or 7 year deal would be the only terms I would propose if I was BT. You need to buy more than 1 UFA year imo.

Default UPD: Hanifin says he is "super close" to signing. Wants at least 5 yr deal.

The guy who got the Foo signing right, and the Hamonic acquisition early, and a whole bunch of other stuff wrong is saying he’s heard 8 years, $5.875M per.

Remember, Hamilton hadn’t accomplished much more than Hanifin has and he got 6 years at 5.75M 3 years ago.

Cap has gone up, and buying two additional years.

If that’s the deal we get, I’d be happy with it although would like to see it closer to $5.5. I’d love to see an 8 year deal.

I wish we would have paid a touch more for Monahan and Gaudreau and gotten both of them to 8 year deals.

5 year only snags one UFA year. Better be more than that.

7 years is the max they can sign him for

As I learned from people on this forum (when asking about Hanifin, as a matter of fact), we can only sign him to a 7 year deal, as he wasn’t part of the organization at the 2018 trade deadline.

Yup once again proving the guy is a phony. Flames can only sign Hanifin for 7 years.

To sign a player to a 8 year deal, he must have been on the reserve list as of the previous trade deadline.

Considering he can't sign an 8 year deal, that should tell you all you need to know about that guy's credibility.

glad it's going to be long-term deal by the looks of it. Not that surprising after the Brouwer buyout, but still great. Hope it's going to be 7 years.

The problem is, it would have cost more than a touch.

Players want to become UFA’s at a time when it’s advantages to them age wise, to enhance their ability to get the 8 year contract.

In Johnny’s case, when his current contract ends, he’s still young enough to get that 8 year deal. If 2 years had been added to his current deal, the next contract wouldn’t have looked so good.

You can assume Tre pushed for 8 years but the cap hit wasn’t to his liking.

One thing I absolutely trust in, is Trelivings contract negotiations. That man after all our big contracts are signed will have saved enough for a James Neal. He’s a man that works his ass off and gives such a damn about this team. And he has balls.

Hit or miss that man night and day is working his ass off to make this team a winner. A man to admit to mistakes. Buy out Brouwer. Trade Hamilton a known commodity for what could be a home run if it goes right. Bring in James Neal on our top line and convince him to come here for a fair wage. Fire his coach and trust in the guy who not even in interviews knows he wants. He has an eye for talent. And is no stand by. Never hear we are in on anything and it comes out. Respect the hell out of him.

I agree 100%. If he can play, he would do it to help the team. Hope the players put it together. He addresses gaps and now hope goaltending/ defense will be good. I think we will not be a bubble playoff team but surprise team of the year.Hockey News did pick us into the 3rd playoff round...

5.5 years at 7 mil isn't an option. It'll have to be a hard 5 or 6 years.

I'm going to say Treliving signs Hanifin for 6 years and $5.5 million/year.

-Skjei was signed for 6 years and $5.25 million/year. He had 25 points in 82 games last year (0.305 points/game).
-Dumba was signed for 5 years and $6.0 million/year. He had 50 points in 82 games last year (0.609 points/game).

$6.00M AAV for 0.609 p/g
$5.25M AAV for 0.305 p/g

Hanifin had 0.405 p/g.

(0.1 between Hanifin and Skjei / 0.304 between Dumba and Skjei) * $0.75M AAV between Dumba and Skjei = $0.247M AAM

Skjei's salary of $5.25M plus $0.247M = ~$5.50M
